Still Here, Still Laughing | With Rachel

What happens when two old friends who used to make people laugh onstage get together to talk about everything they were hiding behind the laughter? This week, I'm joined by my longtime friend Rachel, a fellow improv performer, for a conversation that starts with comedy and takes us somewhere much deeper. We reminisce about our days performing together, the strange magic of improv, and why some of the funniest people you'll ever meet are carrying things you'd never imagine. Rachel opens up about her struggles with depression, addiction, and suicidal thoughts, including a life-threatening experience as a teenager and a more recent mental health crisis. She also shares her journey to 12 years of sobriety, the unexpected ways people can influence one another's recovery, and what it means to start imagining a future again after experiencing profound loss. There are laughs. There are some incredibly difficult moments. And there's the kind of honesty that can only happen when two people who've known each other for decades finally talk about the things they never knew about each other. Content advisory: This episode includes frank discussions of suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts, substance use, and mental health crises, including descriptions of suicidal planning. If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 in the United States to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Welcome to the Stone Cold Daddy Podcast. Come laugh in the dark.
