New documents regarding the homicide case of Madeline Soto reveal some of the evidence Orange County investigators collected in the days after the 13-year-old girl was reported missing.

According to Orange County Sheriff's Office property forms, numerous items were collected from a car and a residence.

On. Feb. 28, two days after Madeline was reported missing, investigators impounded evidence from what is believed to be a Lincoln vehicle – due to multiple Lincoln emblems reportedly found in the vehicle.

Stephan Sterns, the man facing a first-degree murder charge in the Kissimmee teen's death, told police he allegedly dropped her off at school the day she was reported missing while driving a silver 2010 Lincoln MKZ, officers said.

Inside the car, deputies uncovered items such as latex gloves, cloth gloves, a knife, a towel, a rag and a blanket, according to documents. Other items such as a white rope, a trash bag, and a white towel were found in the vehicle's trunk, the documents revealed.

A source involved in the investigation told CNN the fact that the disappearances occurred during times his family was out of town suggests he may have lured victims to the Long Island home. Investigators believe committing the killings at home would have given Heuermann control of the environment and access to materials that were found at the crime scene, including tape and burlap bags, the source said. One of the reasons the search of the suspect’s home has taken so long is because investigators are also combing for trace evidence that may be linked to the victims, multiple sources said. (CNN)

Breaking: State to seek capital case against Stephan Sterns. - The State Attorney’s Office intends to seek the death penalty against Stephan Sterns, the man accused of killing his girlfriend’s daughter, 13-year-old Madeline Soto, according to court records. Sterns is charged with first-degree murder in the case. He is facing one charge of first-degree murder and 60 charges related to sexual battery of a child and possession of sexual material. According to court documents, the State cited four aggravating circumstances that led to their decision: The defendant was previously convicted of another capital felony or of a felony involving the use or threat of violence to the person. The capital felony was committed while the defendant was engaged in the commission of, or an attempt to commit aggravated child abuse. The capital felony was especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel. The victim of the capital felony was particularly vulnerable due to advanced age or disability, or because the defendant stood in a position of familial or custodial authority over the victim.
