Ep. 213 Your Fairytale Love Story Isn't Going To Be A Straight Line Ft. Kelly Gardner and Emily Gough

Ep. 213 Your Fairytale Love Story Isn't Going To Be A Straight Line Ft. Kelly Gardner and Emily Gough

As a personal development coach who works with parents, I'm particularly passionate about helping people navigate the major transitions in family life. Wether the transition that occurs in becoming parents or the one that occurs when a relationship becomes irreparable, these transitions create great opportunities for growth.  Believe me when I say that these lessons have been hard earned.   My first child came swiftly on the heals of my first marriage.  Not so surprisingly we failed to navigate the change of roles from partners to parents. Both of us feeling abandoned, neglected, and undernourished led to increased conflicts that eventually ended in divorce. It was undoubtedly the biggest failure of my life AND it also sparked my transformation from a grown child with a baby to a mature nurturing adult stewarding life.

In the aftermath of the divorce, I began to reflect on what went wrong. I realized that I had been blaming my partner for the problems in our relationship, rather than taking responsibility for my triggers and unhealed traumas. This realization was a wake-up call, and it was the beginning of my personal development journey.  I got involved with personal development and started leading men's groups, and it changed my life. I began to deepen my exploration of compassionate communication as well as taking a path of radical responsibility for everything that was showing up in my life.  I started applying these principles to my life and relationships, and it opened up a whole new world of possibilities.

My second journey through marriage and parenting would prove to be far more successful.  Although a change in sexual identity would bring an end to our marriage, we continue to share a thriving relationship as compassionate co-parents and loving friends.  My two divorces were certainly among the hardest challenges I have faced in my life, but they were also the challenges that taught me how to truly hold and grow both a family and a life of purpose.  The clarity I gained and offer to my family and clients is what I call Inspirational Parenting.  This approach is about allowing the reflections of our closest relationships to become the guide for the growth most needed to create greater fulfillment.  From that place of fulfillment, inspiring others to meet me at my highest.  I can not change others but I can inspire their growth and if nothing else, I will grow in the process.

Ep. 211 Why Paying Attention To The Darkness Is As Important As The Light ft. Laura Chung

Ep. 211 Why Paying Attention To The Darkness Is As Important As The Light ft. Laura Chung

From Laura Chung "Welcome to my corner of the interwebs. Authenticity means everything to me and it’s important to me that you know who I am, my story, and how I came to be. I was born in Queens, NY and I like to mention this because Peter Parker (aka Spiderman) was also born in Queens. I grew up just outside of Manhattan, an idyllic suburb that I couldn’t wait to move away from. I attended Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY and I studied psychology. In 2003, I got hit with the wanderlust arrow when I studied abroad in Granada, Spain. That experience changed my life. I went on to get my Masters of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology at Alliant University in San Diego, CA.I followed the “traditional” path by way of working in corporate America because honestly, I didn’t know there were other options. In 2017, at the apex of what I thought was a life achievement, I wanted to see what else life had to offer. My intention at that time was to be a travel, food, and culture blogger who travels the world. My inspiration was and continues to be Anthony Bourdain and his show No Reservations (RIP). It was during my travels that I was called to deepen my healing and spiritual journey.I never intended to help others with their healing journey or even to teach but I guess this path chooses you. People started to come to me for Reiki healing. I started leading full moon circles in New York City. In a busy city like New York, I found that people wanted to live more mindfully and also find connection through community. Like me, people were curious about the subtle realms and the magic that weaves through life. In 2020, the pandemic changed everything for me, like everyone else in the world. All of my in person healings, circles, and teachings moved online. Even though I missed being able to connect with people in person, I was able to reach people all over the world. This brings us to today. Right here and right now. You probably found me through one of my social media platforms and I roped you into coming here, just kidding. In 2022, my first book, How To Manifest was published by Union Square Publishing. I am the host of the Awaken and Align podcast which is in alignment with my passion in life, which is to speak to inspiring people around the world about spirituality and collective liberation. Ep. 209 Returning To Self-Love After Trauma ft. Jerry Henderson

Ep. 209 Returning To Self-Love After Trauma ft. Jerry Henderson

Find Jerry HERE and make sure to check out his book RETURNING  . "For nearly five decades, I lived with the palpable pain of unhealed trauma and shame. Growing up in a house filled with poverty, substance abuse, and physical, sexual, and emotional abuse left me with profound wounds.  The trauma and abuse started as early as I can remember and so did my use of drugs and alcohol. At age five my parents began giving me alcohol to reward me for chores. At 9 I began using drugs with family members, and by the time I was 14 I was in rehab for drug and alcohol abuse. At 17, I decided to change and devoted my life in service to God, I served as a pastor for 13 years, and spent 16 years serving the poor. None of this removed the shame. The pressures and failures of trying to be a “good Christian” and to “please God” only filled me with more shame.  By my mid-forties the never ending need to try and prove myself turned me into a workaholic, wrecked my nervous system and led to severe burn-out. I was emotionally numb, suicidal, having constant anxiety and panic attacks, and was drinking myself to death. Finally it all fell apart. Over a two-year period, I had a heart attack, open heart surgery, a stay in rehab, a second divorce, and another visit to rehab. My last stay in rehab opened my eyes to the unhealed trauma and deep shame I was living with. I saw how my drinking and destructive behaviors were my best efforts to survive the pain I was in.  On my final day of rehab during my last group session, I spoke the words, “I am worthy of my own love.” When I said those words something tangibly shifted deep inside me.   For the first time in my life, I realized that the source of my suffering wasn’t just the pain of trauma but a separation from love, my own love. I decided at that moment I was going to learn what it meant to love myself, and how I could heal my life.Since that day, I have been researching and experimenting with the ways we heal. A journey that has taken me around the world and into places and spaces I never dreamed I would have ventured into. I’ve explored sources of suffering and the science and spiritual practices that heal us from within. Dissecting how trauma, toxic religious beliefs, unhealthy relationships, and society can contribute to a deep sense of shame, suffering, and addictions for many of us. I became a student of how mindfulness, meditation, self-examination, traditional and non-traditional therapies, self-love, and self-compassion help us rewire our systems and heal.  I discovered that we are the healers that we have been looking for all along. I began to see how we can awaken to our own ability to heal ourselves, how we can remove roadblocks that we have in loving ourselves, and the practices we can use to heal ourselves. Ultimately it is about healing our relationship with ourselves, and that relationship begins to heal when we give ourselves permission to love ourselves" ------------- Work with me, your host,  here: Thelovelyalea.com  Get my free MAGIC MENTOR guide at thelovelyalea.com Become a Patreon Member to get behind the scenes, extra content, and workshops.patreon.com/thelovelyalea Follow me on Instagram instagram.com/thelovelyalea ( Remember I will never DM you for readings - watch out for Scammers ! ) Check out my workshops at a href="http://Spiritualshitschool.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer...

Now, as a coach, she helps others achieve both inner and outer fulfillment as they pursue their goals. She believes that we all have the power to heal, teach, and lead ourselves, and her mission is to empower women to reconnect with their inner wisdom.
