A faded painted sign on the building front that appears to read “Italian and American Dishes” can be seen in the photograph. Originally built in 1951 as a diner ("Tony's Café") with railroad ties and plastered with stucco, it expanded into one of the Whiting Brothers' many roadside service stations (#45) until its closure after Route 66 was bypassed by Interstate 40.
