Get Undrest with…Bethann Hardison
Bethann is a true powerhouse and has had a unique and incredible career. From a New York garment district button factory, she became a modelling superstar walking in the era defining Battle of Versailles fashion show in 1973 which premiered American designers and an impressive lineup of Black model talent in Paris.
Bethann founded her own very successful model agency and has for decades been a fierce advocate for change and revolution. In 1987 she launched the Black Girls Coalition which evolved into an advocacy group raising awareness on issues from homelessness to racism in advertising.
In 2013 as a response to the woeful exclusion of any models of colour on the runways she formed the Diversity Coalition with Iman and Naomi Campbell and once again took the industry to task over the critical role of representation.
A true fashion icon and viewed by so many in the fashion world as a mentor figure she has received the CFDA Founders award, is an executive advisor to Gucci, starred in its spring summer campaign and was on the cover of this September’s Italian Vogue.
