Town of Normal staff to recommend municipal grocery sales tax
The state sales tax on groceries will soon go away, under a plan proposed by Gov. JB Pritzker, but shoppers at grocery stores in the Town of Normal might not see any reduction.
City Manager Pam Reece said the $2.5 million per year the town gets from grocery taxes pays for valuable infrastructure projects.

Illinois weathering unusually stormy spring as tornado count climbs
The National Weather Service [NWS] says six tornadoes developed in Central Illinois during severe storms the night of June 13.
Five of the twisters were confirmed in northeastern McLean County. The twisters developed within 20 minutes and all but one did not last long.

Funk Farms in McLean County celebrates bicentennial anniversary
Two hundred years ago, Funk Farms planted its roots in the soil of McLean County. The corn, soybean and cattle farm 10 miles south of Bloomington in rural Shirley will soon celebrate its bicentennial by engaging the community and showcasing its history during an event Saturday.

McHistory: The last legal MLB spitballer pitched in Bloomington
Hall of Fame pitcher Burleigh Grimes was the last major league pitcher to legally throw a spitball. Grimes played with seven different major league teams, though mostly with the Dodgers and Cardinals. He retired in 1934, the year before he came to Bloomington.

ISU students feel optimistic after climate change lobby trip to Washington, DC
