After an impeccable, award winning career in real estate, Traci Bee decided it was time to acknowledge a yearning that had shadowed her from childhood. An avid reader and lover of creative writing, Traci decided it was time to pen the novel that had dwelled inside of her for over 20 years. In September of 2007, "Two Tears in a Bucket" was born. A compelling story of raw love amidst the harsh realities of urban life, the novel won Traci two awards. Excited about the novel's potential, Traci decided to take a vacation from the world of real estate to focus on promoting her novel. But life had other plans for Traci as a life altering storm brewed in her horizons. Three years later, Traci's back and her passion remains unwavering. She started King George Publishing, LLC - a publishing company named in honor of her daddy angel, George, and will be re-releasing "Two Tears in a Bucket" this fall with more novels to come.

Guest:Native Detroiter, Monique D. Mensah, is a two-time award winning novelist with an innate love for the written word. Monique’s talent for writing was first discovered by her third grade teacher, who regularly asked the young student to share her short stories with the class and sometimes the principal and other school administration during assemblies and PTO meetings. At that time, she declared her dream to become a published author, as she believed it to be her purpose. She continued to receive praise for her writing throughout middle and high school.
After graduating from the University of Michigan, with a bachelor’s degree in business management, Monique was prompted by her best friend to, “just write a book.” She started her first novel,WHO IS HE TO YOU, a drama that she independently published through her publishing company, Kisa Publishing, in 2009. Monique’s debut received critical acclaim by readers and prominent book clubs across the country. In June 2010 she was awarded the title of “Author of the Year” by the African-Americans on the Move Book Club (AAMBC) a national book club organization, promoting African-American authors and literature. In August 2010, Mensah released her second novel, INSIDE RAIN, a psychological thriller that is celebrated as the winner of the 2010 Best Books Awards for African-American Fiction. The Best Books Awards, sponsored by USA Book News, also named WHO IS HE TO YOU as a finalist in the same category.
Monique now resides in Southfield, MI where she is raising her daughter and working full-time as a counselor for a private university. She is also the principal and founder of Make Your Mark Editing Services, a boutique copyediting business that assists authors in turning their manuscripts into masterpieces. Monique is currently working on her third novel, SMOKE SCREEN, due for release late summer 2011.

Carl Weber, New York Times and Essence® bestselling novelist, is the author of Up to No Good, Something on the Side, The First Lady, She Ain’t the One (co-authored with Mary B. Morrison), The Preacher’s Son, Player Haters, Baby Momma Drama, Married Men, Lookin’ for Luv, and the novella “Easy Street,” written with La Jill Hunt and included in the collection he edited, A Dollar and A Dream.

Despite the success and acclaim Carl Weber has had with all of his novels, he says that the path which led him there was not a direct one. “I am a life-long reader and wanted to write, but I wasn’t the best English student,” Weber admits.

When he saw fiction by African Americans beginning to be taken more seriously by publishers, he couldn’t resist putting pen to paper. “I wanted to write a book about ordinary people who have crazy things happen in their lives,” Weber says. His work stood out and quickly received critical acclaim.

“Once you get one under your belt, once you get that first break, life is easier,” says Weber, whose first novel, Lookin’ For Luv, a relationship story written from the rarely heard male perspective, was published in 2000. Weber drew upon personal experiences with “a little more spice” in creating Married Men, his second novel, and then moved away from his comfort zone with Baby Momma Drama, his third novel, which he wrote from a woman’s perspective.

Carl Weber has had a hand in all aspects of the publishing world. A former writer for the Amsterdam News, he is the founder and publisher of Urban Books. Urban Books is one of the largest African-American owned book publishing companies in the country.

Prior to his writing career, Weber earned a reputation as a leading bookseller and was honored with Blackboard’s Bookseller of the Year award. He graduated from Virginia State University and holds an MBA in marketing from the University of Virginia. He lives in Long Island, New York, with his family.
