    Surplus to climate requirements

    Surplus to climate requirements

Is Coronavirus about to put an end to the Government promised Budget surplus?

Has Labor scored an own goal by announcing its climate policy without saying how it'll work?

And if that's not enough, the sports funding controversy is never far away.

Fran and PK are joined this week by the ABC's political editor Andrew Probyn.

BONUS EPISODE: Why was Whitlam really sacked?

How much do you really know about the sacking of Gough Whitlam on November 11, 1975?

But do you properly understand the extraordinary events leading up to the most dramatic day in Australian political history? How did it happen?

For this bonus episode of The Party Room, award-winning ABC journalist Alex Mann joins Fran and PK to tell them all about his new podcast The Eleventh.

    That's a really good question!

    That's a really good question!

On The Party Room this week, Fran and PK wonder what the Government is up to on climate change.

A possible new climate policy has been reported in the papers, but the PM is refusing to say if it's actually a thing.

Sydney Morning Herald political and international editor Peter Hartcher joins them to offer his two cents on how he reckons China has played Australia on Coronavirus.

And why do politicians always say "that's a really good question"? Are they just being polite or is there another reason?

    Guerrilla warfare in the midst

    Guerrilla warfare in the midst

Guerrilla warfare has broken out in the Nationals' party room.

On Monday, Llew O'Brien quit the LNP and defected to the Liberals.

Then in a surprise and embarrassing twist for the Government, he was elected as Parliament's Deputy Speaker with Labor's help.

And it's not over for the Nats, with talk of another leadership spill.

7.30's Chief Political Correspondent Laura Tingle joins The Party Room podcast this week.

    Nationals tears over climate fears

    Nationals tears over climate fears

The year's first week of Parliament has not been as expected.

With Tuesday set aside for tributes and condolence motions for those who have lost their lives in the bushfires, the Nationals had a leadership spill.

It may have been Bridget McKenzie's resignation over the sports rorts saga which prompted the vote, but it's laid bare "the climate wars" within the Nats and Coalition more broadly.

Political Editor for the Australian Financial Review Phil Coorey joins Fran and PK in The Party Room.

    Wild weather, wilder politics

    Wild weather, wilder politics

The country has not had a good start to 2020 and neither has the Federal Government.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison felt the community anger firsthand when he visited bushfire ravaged South Coast NSW.

And after his National Press Club address this week, he felt the heat from journalists over the sports rorts saga.

And outlined plans to try to give the Federal Government more powers to deal with natural disasters in the future.

All this as another challenge for the country emerges: coronavirus.

ABC Insiders host David Speers joins Fran and PK for a bumper first episode of The Party Room for 2020.
