After graduating from SU and making 10 stops at eight different colleges, Charles Guthrie has become a "rising star" as the athletic director of Akron.

In this episode of the D.O. Sportscast, Andrew Crane discusses Guthrie's journey that has taken the Zips to the 2022 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. The road Guthrie traveled wasn't always easy — he once slept in his car for a week for an unpaid internship. But through an intricate web of connections and pouncing on opportunities, Guthrie worked his way to athletic director of Akron in 2021.

Even though Syracuse lost Megan Carney and Emily Hawryschuk halfway through the 2021 season, it still went to the national championship.This season, Kayla Treanor returns to her alma matter with those same championship aspirations. While the Orange lost sophomore standout Emma Ward for the season, they are returning much of their 2021 talent.Carney and Hawryschuk are both coming back from their injuries, while All-Americans Sarah Cooper and Meaghan Tyrrell are returning as well.

Syracuse ended its 2021 season following a first round loss to Georgetown. The 10-goal loss extended the Orange's championship drought to 13 years, the longest stretch of time between national championships for SU since the NCAA Tournament was established. Following the season, head coach John Desko announced his retirement after 46 years of being involved with Syracuse men's lacrosse. The retirement led SU to turn to a program legend in Gary Gait to take the helm.

After many years of inconsistency and turmoil, the Syracuse Crunch have become one of the AHL’s consistent teams since their affiliation with the Tampa Bay Lightning began in the 2012-13 season. 31 Crunch regulars as well as multiple coaches were a part of the Lightning’s Stanley Cup wins in 2020 and 2021. In this episode of The Daily Orange’s sportscast, Alex Cirino discusses the strong connection between the Syracuse Crunch and their NHL affiliate Tampa Bay Lightning.
