DBL#29 - TURPS RETURNS... Neil Turpin (Objections, All Structures Align, Solo). Returning catch up visit for Neil to discuss happenings over the nearly two years or so since #21/22 (Listen if you want more on the many bands he's been in). There's more in depth information about his new post Bilge Pump band Objections as well as All Structures Align. A.S.A. have expanded to a five piece lineup with three guitarists and have recently released another album this year. He also talks about his most recent solo release where he plays, sings and records everything. The last bit discusses his drum teaching, practicing and the big influences on his playing. All round top bloke.

'FILL YOUR BOOTS' part 2 w/Tim Brooks (Razorcake, YOFC Records, Stockholm Syndrome, Young Offenders, Nerves). LEATHERFACE were a very important band for myself and guest contributor Tim Brooks, they are our favourite UK punk band. We dug into some obscure fact finding to help build a timeline with new first-hand information from band members. This part two covers the second era of the band (1997-2013). We both felt it important to present these facts and information here as a resource or guide. It's guaranteed even the hardcore fans will find out something new here. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed and helped us put this information together. You can follow on IG: @destroybeforelistening TRACKS INCLUDED: J. ROBBINS - New York State, DOCTOR BISON - Baptism of Vodka, RUGRAT - Find Me a Way, JESSE - Paradoxical Thing (7" version), STOKOE - Simon, FATTY JONES - Rats, FRANKIE STUBBS - Wax Lyrical (Paul Baskerville radio show, 2000), LEATHERFACE - Lorrydrivers son (Live in Minneapolis, 2000), LEATHERFACE:- Small Yellow Chair (Live in Kassel, Germany 2006), HDQ - Hand Me Downs, LEATHERFACE - Isn't Life Just Sweet (Instrumental demo), FRANKIE STUBBS - Plebs & Dead Industrial Atmosphere. DBL#14/15 Double Feature

This episode is a recut pairing of DBL #14 & #15 released in 2021 both with myself and Chay Lawrence. These episodes are topical for the month of October because they both concern the Horror genre. I was very happy with how they turned out and don't feel enough people got the chance to check them out when I'd switched podcast hosting.
Anyhow I included a new introduction which goes someway to explaining why I've done fuck all with the podcast for most of the year!

DBL#14: The episode here is a look at film, more specifically the 'Folk Horror' movie genre with Chay Lawrence who played in the bands Bob Tilton, Tribute and Coffin Pricks. All of his musical life is discussed at length in Episode #9 if you want to hear more about his background.Chay is also a big fan of the horror genre and October is a good month to discuss this stuff. 'Folk Horror' is usually based around 3 famous Hammer films: Wicker man,  Blood on Satan's claw and Witchfinder general. We take things from there and end up with some unusual twists and turns into the 'Found Footage' genre with a focus on Hollow (2011), Borderlands (2013) & Crone Wood (2016). Intro music: DIE KREUZEN - Among the Ruins Outro: DEAD AND GONE - Mary King's Close. DBL#15 'UNDEAD SOUNDTRACKS' This is another episode where myself and Chay Lawrence take a shot at discussing some Horror movie soundtracks. There are a load of films to talk about, too many to take in because there was about another hour of recording which was either just brainstorming or rambling tangents. We start with the obvious and look at John Carpenter's scores then Tangerine Dream's contributions, as well as the classic Herzog/Popul Vuh teaming on Nosferatu. There were a number of Soundtracks from the 90s where bands played a huge role in a films visibility like the Crow. The well curated soundtrack for Return of the Living Dead is also discussed as well as obviously, the group Goblin. There's a bunch of other great films we talk about and share some cool anecdotes.  Intro music: DIE KREUZEN - 'Halloween' Outro: ZOMBI - 'Slow Oscillations (7" version)'.

LEATHERFACE were a pivotal band for myself and guest contributor Tim Brooks they are our favourite UK punk band. There's general information out there already but we really dug into obscure fact finding to help fill the gaps. We both felt it important to present these facts and information here as a resource. Even a hardcore fan will find out something new here. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed and helped us put this information together. This part one covers the first era (88-93) of the band.

DBL#26 SONNY KAY - 'The VSS Euro tour 1997 + ANGEL HAIR/Gravity records + Punk futures'

Where to begin... vocalist for THE VSS / ANGEL HAIR / YEAR FUTURE etc. founder of the GSL label and Bottlenekk distribution as well as a graphic designer, art director for Sargent House and prolific digital collage artist. In 1997 The VSS travelled around Europe on the 'Nervous Circuits' tour. Seeing them play here was a total eye opener for me as a teenager. I was interested to know his perspective on touring the UK at that time and seeing the bands here like BOB TILTON / BABY HARP SEAL / STALINGRAD / HARD TO SWALLOW / KITO / EBOLA & RED MONKEY. This is the focus of the first bit of talk before a live VSS track leading into a section about ANGEL HAIR & GRAVITY records. There's a great chunk on this with lots of stories and facts I'd never heard before. The ANGEL HAIR track leads into more philosophical reflections on punk/hardcore & culture. It's a cool wide ranging talk with an awesome figure in the underground scene of the past 30 years.
    MUSIC:
THE VSS - I Cut My Teeth (live at Gilman Street, 3/22/97)
    ANGEL HAIR - New Rocket
YEAR FUTURE - Blundertown (The Birthday Party)

DBL#25 Tony Sylvester (Fabric, Southern Records, The Dukes of Nothing, Turbonegro).
This was very interesting conversation for me, a great window into the history of London post-hardcore band FABRIC. From the origins in 1992, recording the 'Body of Water' album, never finding their place or sound & ending with 'Lightbringer' in 1995. After this band ended he focused on his various positions within Southern distribution (Dischord, Touch and Go, Kranky, Southern Lord records etc.) for the rest of the 90s until joining THE DUKES OF NOTHING (featuring IRON MONKEY/ORANGE GOBLIN members). With this group he toured and released the album ' War and Wine' on his Eccentric Man imprint in 2002.
Throughout the 2000s Tony was involved in the formation of the AURORA BOREALIS label with former FABRIC bandmate Andrew Hartwell. He also curated and coordinated the ambitious, decade long LATITUDES series of releases (CIRCLE, CHELSEA WOLFE, DANIEL HIGGS etc.) for the Southern label until his leaving in 2010. In 2011 he ended up becoming vocalist for the Norwegian 'deathpunk' group TURBONEGRO recording and touring throughout the 2010s. He currently focuses his time on men's fashion/lifestyle writing and his own AWMS clothing brand.
