Episode #40: Truth and Perspective Necessary Bullshit Podcast

    • Bildung

In this episode of the podcast, Josh and Ian discuss the meaning of truth and perspective, within the confines of science, philosophy, and politics. They talk about how important truth is on a personal and psychological level; how emotions often tend to inform truth, just as much as reason; the move into postmodernity within politics, society, and philosophy; critiques of liberalism within Western society; Nietzsche's perspectivism and how our interpretation of the world is what we typically like to call "objective" reality and nature; the infamous first podcast between Sam Harris and Jordan Peterson where they debate the meaning of truth; honesty and intent in the political and social realm; propaganda and the worry of living in a post-truth/post-fact world; and the looming problem of ultra-skepticism and epistemological nihilism.

In lieu of NBSNews this week, Josh and Ian discuss the May 2019 interview on BBC of Ben Shapiro by Andrew Neil, and how it devolved into more of a "debate"; largely being the fault of Shapiro as he loses his composure. Then they move into discussing formal logic, logical syllogisms, and how Shapiro often falls into fallacious thinking.
