The Music Videos / "Time Passes and the Future Is Now" (2021)

The Music Videos / "Time Passes and the Future Is Now" (2021)

It may come as a great surprise, but Fishmans have music videos! They may not be quite to the standards of MTV, but they're certainly something. Who needs MTV anymore anyway? People like to talk all this trash about "Ah, MTV *used* to be about the music! What happened!" or "I was a kid in the 80s and let me tell you, it was so awesome! I remember when the Berlin Wall fell--another win for freedom!" Just complete nonsense. It was never good to begin with! Always a nostalgia trip for you people.

Also some big, relatively important (depending on who you ask) news! The band is back and, perhaps not better than ever, but surely in a pretty spectacular fashion! A reunion just in time for the 30 year anniversary of ひこうき (that means "Airplane"), Fishmans' first ever single, the band + a few others (is this Fishmans+?) jam out for a bit, and though the time zone difference really hit us hard, it was certainly something to remember! The stream also included an interview/quite long Talking session with former bandmate Kensuke Ojima and director of the upcoming Fishmans movie, Yuki Teshima. We're sure some very important information was exchanged, but we sure couldn't tell! Although some info made it through, such as: merch drop, movie release, and even a RateYourMusic shoutout. Yes. Seriously. We're still not entirely sure how to feel about that one.

Either way, enjoy this sort of double episode! Time has passed, and the future truly is "Now".

BONUS FISH: B-Sides, Remixes & Rarities (Part 2)

BONUS FISH: B-Sides, Remixes & Rarities (Part 2)

Consider this an April Fools Day present, except it came out on April 2nd but in a way it's still April Fools. Since Ray and I are a pair of Fools. A pair of Fools now with a pair of microphones! Which reminds me: Ray and I now have our own microphones, so be ready for an enhanced audio experience and a deal with Spotify in the near future.

I know the last description, if you happen to be keeping up with them, alluded to a "part 2" coming "soon", and it took almost 2 months for the "part 2" to come to fruition. We're (I'm) incredibly, unreasonably sorry. But it's okay. In the grand scheme of all things, physical and otherwise, the lifetimes of all universes beyond our own cosmic core, 2 months really isn't that much of a wait. Perspective is key.

The songs discussed in this episode fare much much better than the songs discussed in the last episode. As always, we hope you enjoy. Walk in the rhythm, walk in the rhythm...

BONUS FISH: B-Sides, Remixes & Rarities (Part 1)

BONUS FISH: B-Sides, Remixes & Rarities (Part 1)

I've been informed that this is the first episode of our second season! There's just so much happening in the world that I tend to lose track of what's truly important in my life, like this podcast. I, for one, couldn't have imagined how far we'd end up, but here we are on our second season! I could make a "Long Season" joke right now, but we make one within the first, like, 10 seconds of the episode, and I'd hate to spoil that for you.

So we're back, and we're talking about B-sides, remixes, and rarities, as mentioned in the title. How many seasons before the show falls apart? Place your bets now. Maybe we'll cover that in our next poll. Part 2 soon. Bananamelon.

Season Finale Part 2: 98.12.28 Video / Even More Listener Poll Results

Season Finale Part 2: 98.12.28 Video / Even More Listener Poll Results

Oh and here's the second part because Anchor won't let me upload the whole podcast as one file. Says it's "too big" or something... whatever.

We go over the concert video (so many lights!) as well as the results from the last poll! Remember that? Our own personal lists kinda banged, but the rest of you all did awful! The lists turned out horribly! It was a disaster! Still, we offer our thanks and wish you a happy and fulfilling rest of the year (a.k.a. like 4 days). Until next time... Stay fishy.

Season Finale Part 1: "98.12.28 男達の別れ (98.12.28 Otokotachi no Wakare)" (1999)

We made it, finally, to The One.

After a most tumultuous year, we gift to you this holiday season, our solemn yet strangely secular review of the sacred “98.12.28 男達の別れ”, blessed be the name. And, like I said in the last description (does anyone read these?), I know this is the only episode you care about. Like, let’s be honest here! I’m sure you thought our other episodes were nice (and you’d totally be right), but *this* is why you’re here. Worry not, I love you all the same, but don’t go around thinking you’re slick! I’ll be transparent about us too, it’s only fair--this is the only episode we care about! There’s nothing wrong with that, of course. We just have to be real with ourselves. Honesty *is* the best policy, after all.

So here you go, you eager bastards! This is for you, for me, for everybody--this is truly what the world needs right now. Of course we bring on Jake, the honorary Fish, to discuss the famed event in all of its passion and glory, and to bid a person or two farewell… Our love is endless, our gratitude plentiful, stay safe and care for one another. We’ll be back. Thank you.
