    Fishnets & Cigarettes Episode 2

This episode covers the inter-war period between 1914 and 1941, which starts with the Les Années folles ("crazy years" in French) and refers to the decadence of the 1920s in France. The name hints at the opulent social, artistic, and cultural collaborations that took place in these years. The same period is also referred to as the Roaring Twenties or the Jazz Age in the United States.

In this episode we will discuss Parisian Café Culture, the Jazz Age, Prohibition, Flapper girls, the Moulin Rouge and the Ziegfeld follies, Salvador Dali, Coco Chanel, Elsa Schiaparelli, Luisa Casati, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Noel Coward, and the Americans in Paris.. We learn why revolutions were started in Cafés, why your lover shouldn’t become your manager, why the Americans love Paris and why they’re hated for it, that the best alcohol in a prohibition probably involves a boat ride, and that Chanel was more rebellious than she looked… So sit back, grab a glass of champagne, coffee or absinth… and let us take you an opulent tour of fashion and music’s greatest moments in history. Will you join us?

Fishnets & Cigarettes: How music and fashion changed the world

Where opulence and decadence reign supreme, and the pursuit of beauty is a way of life...

More is more, and more is definitely better, right?

In this episode you'll learn more about us, your hosts Stan and Bella, and why we became so obsessed with the decadence of the past. We believe by embracing it, decadence can help us escape the mundaneness of the modern age and the time we are living in... intellectual hedonism at its finest. We may or may not have thrown in a couple of Kinks references for good measure.

In this week's episode we start our journey into decadence by taking a look at Marie Antoinette, Beau Brummel, Oscar Wilde, La Belle Epoque, and the Bright Young Things ... You'll learn important things like: If you're destitute and chic, you should probably flee to France, that champagne can be used to polish your boots (if you're Beau Brummel that is), and why you probably shouldn't fall out with the prince when he's paying for your champagne habit.

    Stay decadent.

    * Apologies: You can't hear Stan very well in the first 5 minutes, but it improves afterwards. This is our first episode so we are still getting the hang of everything. Bear with us!
