Videos from OSU's 10th Anniversary GIS Day celebration, including a retrospective over the 10 years, a thank you to the local GIS community, and a special announcement about the new Oregon Spatial Data Library. Our keynote speaker was Pete Giencke from Google headquarters.

Pete Giencke has worked as a GIS Data Engineer on the Google Earth Team since 2008, and has contributed to various geographic data integration efforts, including the Ocean in Google Earth project. With 11 years of experience in Information Technology and GIS, he is an advocate for open standards and open source software as mechanisms to facilitate the accessibility and interoperability of geographic data.

The talk focused on the common ground between Google Earth and the more traditional GIS world, including metadata standards and KML, as well as resources such as Google Earth Outreach and its templates, code.google.com for developers, and the Lat/Long blog. He will discuss what’s new and on the horizon, with the goal of making geographic data (GIS, KML and otherwise) more free and open.
