Interview with Baby Begin: What you need to know about flat head syndrome and your newborn

Interview with Baby Begin: What you need to know about flat head syndrome and your newborn

Our guest on the podcast today is Jennifer Barnard of Baby Begin. She has been a pediatric occupational therapist for over 20 years. She is an expert on treating torticollis (tight neck) and correcting flat heads in babies without the need for helmets and trains other therapists all over the world to do the same. This is a really big deal, especially as a mom of a child who had to wear a helmet - I would have given anything to have known about the preventative and early treatment options Jennifer talks about in this episode. It would have saved us going through such a difficult ordeal with our second child.

Since we work with so many newborn babies and families with young babies, we wanted to bring her onto the podcast to share some of her expertise and empower you as mom and dad to advocate for your little one.

    13. Will Sleep Training Harm My Baby?

One of the most common fears parents have about sleep training is that sleep training will harm their child emotionally, mentally, or physically (or damage their attachment or bond).

This episode is intended to encourage parents by providing some of the relevant evidence based research that has been done on sleep training and point you towards resources as you work through whether sleep training is right for you and your family.

Will the stress or rise in cortisol caused by sleep training harm my child’s development or their emotional or physical wellbeing?
What about the well known Middlemiss study that proves sleep training is dangerous?
Will sleep training damage my child’s bond with me or their attachment?

    Your Child's Perfect Bedtime Routine

    Your Child's Perfect Bedtime Routine

Did you know that the steps you take in your child’s nap and bedtime routine sends a signal to their brain that it’s time for sleep?⁣ Each step becomes a cue that tells your child it’s almost time to go to sleep.

Having a consistent sleep routine that you do before every single sleep is a very small, but very important part of your child’s sleep puzzle. When we begin working with families, one of the very first things we do is help them come up with a sleep routine that they commit to doing before every single nap and bedtime.

Now, we know that bedtime can be one of the most stressful things for families. We’ve worked with families whose bedtime routines take up to an hour or more as they try to get their little one’s down for the night or for naps. Today’s episode is going to help bust some myths about bedtime routines and you will walk away knowing exactly what you need to do.

Four Steps to Solve your Child's Night Wakings

Four Steps to Solve your Child's Night Wakings

Every week we get tons of questions that go something like this:
“How do I solve my 8 month old’s night wakings?”

“How do I help my 14 month old stop waking for comfort feeds during the night?”

“How do I help my toddler or preschooler sleep without needing me to sleep in their room with them?”

All of these questions essentially ask the same thing: how do I solve my child’s night wakings? Which is EXACTLY what we help parents with here at the Goodnight House. However, the answer to that question is a little bigger than what we can answer in a simple Instagram story slide.

Today on the podcast, I want to take this entire episode to answer this question and help you solve your child’s night wakings! (This episode is for children over 5-6 months old, as newborns are a whole different ball game. Check out our newborn services and free resources).

We also have a free download in the show notes of this episode - it’s a workbook style guide that goes along with this episode and offers even more details to help you solve your child’s night wakings: get the free workbook HERE.

Oral Dysfunctions, Ties, Reflux, and Your Baby’s Sleep

Oral Dysfunctions, Ties, Reflux, and Your Baby’s Sleep

On today’s episode we are really excited to have a guest on the show! Mallory Millet is a Speech Pathologist who specializes in pediatric feeding disorders. Her focuses include infant reflux, infant oral development and bottle feeding. Through her professional work, and with the lack of support during her own babies’ feeding journeys, she created, The Feeding Mom. It is here that she provides in- person and virtual support to empower parents through their feeding journeys locally and around the world.

Her philosophy is: every parent deserves to love feeding their baby.

We created this episode to empower parents to know what signs and symptoms to look for if they suspect a feeding or reflux issue with their babies.

In this episode, Mallory gives us red flags to look for as well as specific questions you can ask your pediatrician to help your little one get the help they need. This episode is for you - we hope you enjoy it and that it empowers you to advocate for your child.
