Honey, Not Beige - the podcast where we discuss the sticky, sweet, and colourful parts of life.

We are Elyse and Sam, two mummas who couldn’t help but notice the sheer amount of beige creeping into the world… when we know one thing is for certain; when you have kids, nothing is as simple, clean and vanilla as the ‘beige ones’ will have us believe! Those with beautiful, clean and tidy homes, hats off! Beige looks good on you. The reality for us on the other hand, is that it's honey, not beige.

    Episode 3 - Monte

    Episode 3 - Monte

Today Sam talks about little Monte's entry into the world... at almost 42 weeks this little guy was pretty well baked and mumma was well and truly over it.  But when the day finally arrived, well, things got interesting.  🚗

    IMPORTANT STUFF:

Make sure you tip your Uber driver!

Here are some fun stats on where Aussie mums give birth: Almost all births in Australia took place in hospitals (97%), in conventional labour wards. Of mothers who gave birth in hospital 3 in 4 (75%) did so in a public hospital. A small proportion of mothers gave birth elsewhere, including birth centres (2.3%), at home (0.3%), or in other settings (such as before arrival at hospital) (0.6%).

Home births are slightly more common mothers who have had 3 or more previous births (0.4%–0.5%), and are least common among first-time mothers (0.2%).

In 2020, approximately 294,400 babies were born in Australia, with Monte being one of them! 🤎

    Episode 2 - Twins

    Episode 2 - Twins

In this episode, Elyse tells the emotional story of how her beloved twins, Scarlett and Felix came into the world. This is one of the times when the word "journey" is more than warranted! It's a beautiful story of love and triumph and one mother's (and dad's) determination to bring little beings into a very loving family. Get your tissues out for this one folks!

    IMPORTANT STUFF:

IVF stats: 27 per cent of embryo transfers resulting in a live birth, the latest analysis of the Australian and New Zealand Assisted reproductive database (ANZARD) shows.

    Success rates: One in 20 babies are now conceived with IVF. 35-37 years-old: 29.5% 38-40 years-old: 19.0% 41-42 years-old: 9.4% Older than 42 years-old: 3.0%

    Episode 1 - Mother's Group

Welcome to Honey, Not Beige - where life is sticky, sweet and colourful!

We are so excited to share with you our first episode, and if you can't hear the sheer terror and nerves in our voices then your headphones mustn't be plugged in!

In this episode, we (aka Sam and Elyse) chat about how we met, the fact that we have so little in common but so much at the same time, how we bonded over our babies being besties, not to mention being the 'geri-mums' of our Mother's Group. Hear Rae and Bella's story, and finally, what you can expect from the HNB podcast in future eps!

    IMPORTANT STUFF:

If you would like more information on hiring a doula for your birth, check out https://www.doulanetwork.org/ or if you would like to chat to Jackie (Sam's beloved Doula) you can contact her at http://www.lovecherub.com/
