    279. The Power of Listening

    279. The Power of Listening

There are a lot of layers behind the act of listening. As podcasters, we’re creating something for our audience to listen to. However, we have to really listen to our audience in order for a show to be successful.

On This Episode Of Should I Start A Podcast…

There’s a difference between hearing and listening.

If you have a podcast, you hope people will listen to your show. But sometimes the key to a successful show lies in how well you’re listening to your audience. This Clubhouse room started out as a discussion on podcasting tricks but quickly turned to the power of listening.

Both the panel and the audience brought up examples of how listening allowed them to find their niche and deliver content that mattered. For some, it was important to touch on topics that their audience found meaningful. For others, it was about cutting out the content that was no longer serving their audience. But the bottom line was, listening to your audience and your intuition should always be your goal.

We all got into this business to get our voices heard. So let’s make sure we’re hearing the voices of those who allow us to continue to speak. If you’re curious about how to actively listen to your niche, this is the episode for you.

Other cool stuff in this episode:

Creating podcasts that reflect your life experience

    Niche down your niche

The science behind hearing and cochlear plant technology

How the pandemic has changed the way we listen

What’s your absolute favourite story as a podcaster? And if you don’t have your own show, what podcasts have stood out to you?

On This Episode Of Should I Start A Podcast….

Volume: Erik Huberman: The Victim Complex

Volume: Erik Huberman: The Victim Complex

Focusing on the negative gets you nowhere, especially in business. If you don’t want to be a victim of yourself, it’s simple. Don’t be one.

In this volume of The Psychology of Entrepreneurship…

Erik Huberman doesn’t believe in the victim complex. And it shows.

“Well, if you go in expecting it to be a shit show, it’s a shit show.”

As the founder and CEO of Hawke Media, the fastest-growing marketing consultancy in America, Erik Huberman knows a thing or two about business. And he didn’t get here by playing “Mr Nice Guy.” Well, ok, Erik is indeed a nice guy. But he doesn’t put up with crap, and he credits that attitude to getting him this far.

In this volume, we’re presenting you with Erik’s entire uncut interview. Sure, we could have fancied it up a bit, but this guy has a lot to say, and we wanted you to hear all of it. In this conversation, Erik and I discuss why you have to hold your own as an entrepreneur. And he tells some pretty poignant and hilarious stories to hone in on this point. I can’t wait for you to hear.

Other Topics Discussed in This Volume:

    The Victim Complex

Knowing when to hold your own

    The never-ending nature of business

    When Covid hit

    277. Intros, Formats and Speed

    277. Intros, Formats and Speed

What lessons have you learned from podcasting? What would you have done differently if you could start over again? When it comes to intros, formats and speed, sometimes you have to adjust as you go.

On This Episode Of Should I Start A Podcast…

The lessons we learn as we’re building our podcasts are invaluable.

This Clubhouse firehouse chat is a mix of new and experienced podcasters lamenting the lessons they’ve learned. Although many podcasting factors are mentioned, we hone in on intros, formats and speed.

Some things you implement at the beginning of your podcasting journey may stick around for the long haul. However, many components may need tweaking as you go. Is your intro grabbing listeners or boring them? Should you change up your format if it’s getting a bit stale? Should the fact that some people listen to your show at 1.5X speed factor into your content? All these questions run through our minds regularly. So my friends and I, along with the audience, try to answer them. New and old podcasters alike will find a little something of value in this episode.

Other cool stuff in this episode:

    Lessons from years of podcasting

    The most compelling intros

    What formats grab attention quicker

Should you cater to speed listeners?

    Volume: Jane Vadiveloo Uncut

    Volume: Jane Vadiveloo Uncut

When it comes to making any sort of lasting change in the world, you have to start with the children. After all, it’s the generations that come after us that are going to be cleaning up our messes.

In this volume of The Psychology of Entrepreneurship…

Jane Vadiveloo knows the future lies in the hands of today’s children.

“If we really want to disrupt things, if we really want long-term sustainable change, that is honest and real, it is going to take time. It is going to take investment and it is going to take a change in a power structure.”

As the CEO and co-founder of Children’s Ground, Jane Vadiveloo’s entire career is centred around helping Aboriginal youth. She has a Masters in Forensic Psychology and has been leading organisations for over 25 years. Children’s Ground serves as a unique approach to ensuring future generations of children enjoy education, health, social and economic opportunities.

In this volume, we’re presenting you with my entire uncut interview with Jane. We thought this subject matter could be more effectively accentuated by the entire context of this conversation. You’ll hear Jane explain why her work with Aboriginal youth is so essential to their, and our country’s future. We discuss generational trauma and why that always plays a role when developing effective programs for Aboriginal peoples.

We’ve done several volumes now on the history, strength, courage and tenacity of Aboriginal people and why we should all care. But this is the first time we’ve focused on the children. This was an eye-opening interview for me, and Jane gave me such hope for the future.

Other Topics Discussed in This Volume:

    All about Children’s Ground

Generational trauma and how that shapes Jane’s work

    Why today’s youth is misunderstood

    How history is repeating itself
