Jaan Pakistan is an award-winning social startup, based in Lahore, Pakistan, dedicated towards researching, manufacturing and distributing affordable, clean-energy cooking solutions for low-income communities across Pakistan. On average, their consumers report 40% savings on cooking fuel expenses and their best selling product, the supreme cookstove, is expected to save up to 11,000 lives over the next 10 years.

In episode 6, we're in conversation with Asad Badruddin, co-founder Pakathon. Launched in 2013, Pakathon is a global organization with 85+ volunteers organized around eight volunteer chapters in the US, Canada, Middle East and Australia. By hosting events in cities abroad they connect the Pakistani diaspora to issues in Pakistan and scout for potential “Returners” – individuals who want to move back to Pakistan and do impactful work. Their flagship workshop is a global hackathon held simultaneously across all chapters that connects participants to domain experts and investors.

In Episode 5, we're in conversation with Maria Umar, founder and president of Women’s Digital League (WDL) which is doing its part to reduce the gap. WDL is an online platform that provides digital training and work to Pakistani women. It is a virtual firm providing digital services to clients, proudly owned and powered by Pakistani women. WDL is working for economic development of the country by mobilizing a vast dormant female workforce that is either discouraged from working outside or has trouble finding work opportunities.
