(Ep 1) Gratitude: ”Monkey Thanks His Tree” and ”Monkey Picks a Pumpkin”

(Ep 1) Gratitude: ”Monkey Thanks His Tree” and ”Monkey Picks a Pumpkin”

“The vibration of gratitude attracts more positive things into your life.”
"Monkey Thanks His Tree"- Monkey practiced his Inner Star Power of Gratitude when his favorite tree disappeared!  He realized that he wanted his tree to know how much he loved and appreciated it. As Monkey told his tree how much he appreciated it, it suddenly re-appeared and it was even more beautiful than before!
"Monkey Picks A Pumpkin"- Monkey practiced his Inner Star Power of Gratitude when he was having a hard day.  Everything was bothering him and he couldn’t stop complaining. His Inner Star Power of Gratitude helped Monkey turn his day around!
Learning the skill of gratitude can help our children experience more positive emotions as well as decreasing stress levels.
The Star Power Challenge is for your child to make a gratitude tree. This tree can help your child practice their Inner Star Power of Gratitude. Each day, help your child write one thing that they are thankful for on a paper leaf (you can write something to!).  Place your leaves on the tree. If you do this every day, your gratitude tree will be full and beautiful before you know it!
Take some time to reflect on how expressing gratitude makes you and your child feel.

(Ep 3) Creativity: ”Lion Hears a Rainbow” and ”Lion Makes A Costume”

(Ep 3) Creativity: ”Lion Hears a Rainbow” and ”Lion Makes A Costume”

“Creativity is seeing the same thing, but thinking differently.” Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam
"Lion Hears a Rainbow"- Lion practiced his Inner Star Power of Creativity when his friend dog realized that he could listen to sounds and imagine what color they might be.  Lion found this very difficult to do, but he thought about the problem and he came up with a creative way to help him see a rainbow too!
"Lion Makes a Costume"- Lion found his Inner Star Power of Creativity when he was feeling sad because he didn’t have a costume for his friend’s costume party.  Difficult situations give our children an opportunity to find creative solutions.
Creativity can help children to think outside the box, solve difficult problems, and discover the light of their soul within!
The Star Power Challenge is for your child to make their own costume for Monkey's Costume Party! Encourage your child to think creatively, using paper, glue, tape, stuffed animals, and other things around your house to create their own costume.
Take some time to reflect on how practicing creativity makes you and your child feel.

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”  Eleanor Roosevelt
"Elephant Climbs a Mountain"- Elephant practiced her Inner Star Power of Dreaming Big when she decided to climb the tall mountain near her home.  In the past, she had been afraid that the mountain would be too tall to climb.  Her Inner Star Power of Dreaming Big helped her remember that if she believes in herself and works hard, she can achieve all of her dreams!
The Star Power Challenge is for your child to draw a picture or make a collage of one of their dreams or goals.  It can be anything they want; they could make a picture of themselves climbing a tree, making a new friend, or they could make a picture of what they want to be when they grow up.  Help them to place this picture in their bedroom or anyplace that they will be able to see it every day.  This will help them remember how good it will feel to reach their dreams!
Take some time to reflect on how thinking about big dreams makes you and your child feel.

(Ep 2) Gratitude: ”Monkey Has A Party!”

(Ep 2) Gratitude: ”Monkey Has A Party!”

“It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful.” Brother David Steindl-Rast
"Monkey Has A party!"- Monkey found his Inner Star Power of Gratitude when the gifts from his birthday party started to disappear.  His Inner Star Power of Gratitude reminded him that everything is more special when we stop and show gratitude for the gifts we are given.
Learning the skill of gratitude can help our children experience more positive emotions as well as decreasing stress levels.
The Star Power Challenge is for your child to make a thank you note. This thank you note can be given to a special person else to say thank you for a gift, a service, or a kind act. Alternatively, your child can keep the note to remind themselves how lucky they are to have this gift in their life.
Take some time to reflect on how expressing gratitude makes you and your child feel.

“Problems are nothing but wake-up calls for creativity.” Gerhard Gschwantner
"Lion Tells A Story"- Lion practiced his Inner Star Power of Creativity when he and his friend Monkey couldn’t think of anymore games to play.  Lion decided to use his Inner Star Power of Creativity to make up a story with Monkey! They took turns being creative and adding onto the story.
"Lion Builds a Bridge"- Lion practiced his Inner Star Power of Creativity when he accidentally dug a hole separating some ants from their ant hill.  Lion was angry and frustrated with himself because he had blocked the ants from getting home. He used his Inner Star Power of Creativity to solve the problem by building a bridge with objects in his surroundings.
You can encourage your child to develop their ability to solve problems creatively by thinking outside the box. This can help to reduce frustration and improve self-confidence!
The Star Power Challenge is for your child to make their own bridge using materials in their own environment.  Encourage them to look at the materials that they have available to them.  Some examples include: toilet paper rolls, hangers, boxes, markers, rulers, egg cartons, etc.  They can use this bridge however they want.
Take some time to reflect on how practicing creativity makes you and your child feel.

“If your compassion does not include yourself, it is incomplete.” Jack Kornfield
"Dog Finds a Magic Plant"- Dog found her Inner Star Power of kindness when she used kindness to help a small magical plant grow.  However, the plant helped her discovered that she was being kind to everyone but herself. When she showed kindness to herself, the plant grew strong and beautiful.  Reminding your child to be kind to themselves includes encouraging them to identify their emotions rather than begin swept up in them, acknowledging that failure is part of being human, and teaching them to care for their heart and body as they would for a friend. Researcher Kristin Neff of the University of Texas at Austin, defines self-compassion as “mindfulness of your own thoughts and feelings, a sense of a common humanity and treating yourself kindly.”
Learning the skill of kindness toward oneself (or self-compassion) helps our children become stronger and more resilient in the face of challenges.
This episode's Star Power Challenge is to help Dog's kindness plant grow! Your child will help Dog's magical plant get taller and taller by being kind to THEMSELVES! Print the free self-compassion worksheets here.  Use Dog's handy list of acts of self-compassion to inspire your child's Inner Star Power of Kindness. Help your child color in one leaf every time they practice self-compassion toward their own heart, body, and mind.
Take some time to reflect on how practicing self-compassion makes you and your child feel.
