A very strong storm called a typhoon visited the Philippines. This typhoon brought a lot of rain and powerful winds. The heavy rain caused big floods, which means there was water everywhere. Some hills also had landslides, where mud and rocks slid down. Many families had to leave their homes to find a safe place. It is a very sad time because some people were hurt. But many brave helpers are there. Rescue teams are working day and night to help find people and give them food and shelter. People are helping each other get through this difficult time.

This typhoon brought a lot of rain and powerful winds. 這個颱風帶來了大量的雨水和強勁的風。

Our first word is typhoon, T-Y-P-H-O-O-N. A typhoon is a very big and powerful storm with strong winds and rain. Typhoon 就是「颱風」。A synonym is 'hurricane', and the opposite could be 'calm'. Let's make a sentence: The typhoon was very strong. 這個颱風非常強大。
Next up is flood, F-L-O-O-D. A flood is when a lot of water covers an area that is usually dry. Flood 就是「水災」或「洪水」。A synonym could be 'deluge', and the opposite is 'drought'. For example: The heavy rain caused a flood in the city. 豪雨造成了城市的水災。
Our third word is brave, B-R-A-V-E. Brave means you are not afraid to do something difficult or dangerous. Brave 就是「勇敢的」。A synonym is 'courageous', and an antonym is 'afraid' or 'scared'. Let's use it in a sentence: The rescue workers are very brave. 那些搜救人員都非常勇敢。
And our last word for today is shelter, S-H-E-L-T-E-R. A shelter is a place that gives you protection from bad weather or danger. Shelter 就是「避難所」或「庇護處」。A synonym is 'refuge', and the opposite could be 'exposure'. A sentence could be: The family found shelter in a school. 這家人在一所學校裡找到了避難所。
