16: Burnout: A story of recognising, recovering and changing - with Clea Wallage Go To Grow - with Melissa MacGowan

    • Self-Improvement

Burnout was classified in May 2019 by the World Health Organisation as an 'occupational phenomenon'.  Risk factors include; increased workload and organisational changes,  "doing more with less" even if flexibility is provided. Individually we can also contribute to our Burnout risk through work and lifestyle choices, personality and stress management.
3 key symptoms to tune into:
Energy depletion
Increased mental distance from work/life
Decreased professional efficacy
Perfectionist personality traits can increase our risk: Set very high goals and standards for self, very concerned with avoiding mistakes and fear failure Language includes "should" "must"
Ask yourself: How might I (or the business cultural context I set) be contributing to burnout?  Are you taking sufficient breaks and using your leave? Where do you feel misaligned in career and/or lifestyle and what is this costing you energetically?
