Grace is back after a very exciting week of Mets baseball. She discusses the many highs, and a significant low, of the past seven days of Mets games. She also gets into the latest updates regarding Shohei Ohtani and his interpreter Ippei Mizuhara’s gambling scandal.
Then she gets into another case of draconian laws levied at queer people this, time from Kansas. The proposed bill would mandate ID for viewing content deemed “harmful to minors” online, and the definition of such content includes homosexuality. She breaks down the intentional vagueness of the language, how impossible it may be to actually enforce, and what ripple effects such legislation can and usually does have.
Finally, Grace has a somewhat unorthodox movie minute (by her standards). She’s gotten very into ESPN’s 30 for 30 series as of late, and she gives her recommendations for great selections from the first volume of documentaries.

    Several Mets are owed apologies

    Several Mets are owed apologies

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.
This week, we begin by discussing this good stretch of play the Mets are having (and against good teams!) thanks to contributions from up and down the roster, including from guys many people (including us) were skeptical of going into the season.
Next, we talk about the injuries to Francisco Alvarez and Brooks Raley and what that means for the roster.
We also share our takes on the Mets’ City Connect uniforms and the “Rally Pimp” “controversy.”
Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.
You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Home Run Applesauce podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! City Connect Chat

    City Connect Chat

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, Home Run Applesauce’s podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system.
It’s just Thomas and Lukas this week, so we go long on our discussion of the best City Connect uniforms. We’re a big fan of the Mets’ iteration, ranking it in the top tier below only the Nats and the Padres. Big win for the team, and it seems MLB is getting better at this over time.
On the draft front, Michael Massey continues to struggle, while Cam Caminiti bounces back in a big way for Thomas. On the hitting side, both Slade Caldwell and Kaelen Culpepper keep doing what they’ve been doing. We also discuss Keith Law’s draft rankings.
Moving to the performance in the minors this week, the bats are still a little sleepy. Mark Vientos is destroying Triple-A again and deserves a trade to a team that can give him a shot. Jett Williams and Luisangel Acuña are still struggling but making strides in the right direction. The pitching, meanwhile, continues to be excellent, even if we’d like to see Blade Tidwell moved to a relief role sooner rather than later.

    Sincere Apologies to Harrison Bader

    Sincere Apologies to Harrison Bader

Welcome to Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World Series, the new/old favorite from Chris McShane and Brian Salvatore.
The Mets have had two very good weeks of baseball, capped off a by sweep of the Pirates at home. Before they head out to the West Coast, Chris and Brian discuss the surprising excellence of the bullpen, some of the offensive highlights, and admit they were wrong (so far) about one player in particular.
    Chris’s Music Pick:
CV Vision - Im Tal del Stutzer
    Brian’s Music Pick:
Arthur Russell - Instrumentals Vol. 1 (As part of the First Thought Best Thought compilation)

    Jackie Robinson Day

    Jackie Robinson Day

Flushing is Burning is back after a fun week of Mets baseball. Grace begins by talking about the Mets bounceback, and Brett Baty (and the teams) looser nature, with a clearly different vibe this year. She also discusses the upcoming City Connect jerseys, and Jackie Robinson and his impact.
Next, she dives into the recent news surrounding the transgender sports ban executive order in Nassau County, New York. She talks about the news surrounding it and gives her thoughts on the ridiculous and harmful nature of the law and the potential danger of its ripple effects.
Finally, she has another one-two punch of a movie minute, a double feature of documentaries that are meant to be served as a package. They're political, one frightening and one hopeful, but both excellent.
