Labor unlikely to deliver on its promise to halve immigration
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's pledge to halve immigration this financial year is under scrutiny, potentially leading to accusations of breaking an election promise.
He had committed to reducing the net overseas intake to 250,000 in 2024-25. However, with 547,300 foreigners moving to Australia in 2023 and 482,450 migrants arriving in the year to May, achieving this target seems unlikely.
Mike is joined by Saxon Davidson from the Institute of Public Affairs, who highlights that recent data suggests Labor may struggle to fulfill its promise.
"The latest ABS data confirms the federal government is simply not interested indelivering on its promise to reduce Australia's record migration surge, and willdramatically overshoot its net overseas migration commitment", he says.

Customer Reviews
Michael McClaren weekend mornings
Michael is very intelligent, interesting, witty, well informed. I enjoy his morning podcasts every week. I do miss his overnights broadcast
but he definitely deserves daytime slots. He Should replace Fordam,Hadley or Knight. Luke Grant is hopeless. I miss all the regular callers who called during Michael’s overnight show , especially Gazza, he and Michael were very funny.
Michael McLaren for daytime
Like previous review, Michael is a well informed presenter who actually researches interesting topics of the day & presents them in a format that keeps you coming back for more. My sleep is terrible now because i listen to the wee hours of the morning as I drift in & out of sleep and then get up and go back and listen to the podcast!
I don’t listen to 2GB otherwise - ben fordham, ray hadley & debra knight - total dribble
Michael McLaren
Why, oh why did the powers that be not put
Michael in Alan Jones’s slot? He is intelligent, interesting, interested, learned and very funny to boot. Ben is such a light-weight, I feel like I’m listening to radio aimed at twenty year olds (unexpected??? marriage proposals live on air, for example) - seriously?? I want to be informed - not listen to that load of fluff! I now listen to episodes of Michael McLaren instead of Ben (and others I will not name - well, Deborah Knight - another light-weight who just goes over everything that has already been discussed for the six and a half hours before she comes on and then proceeds to go over it all again ad nauseam - she then sets a topic to encourage callers to fill in the hours for her like ‘what was the best concert you ever attended?’ ‘What is the most unusual sandwich filling you’ve encountered?’ ‘What’s your favourite band of all time?’ Who frigging cares?!! Just lazy, boring and pathetic)
