Ta-Nehisi Coates on his new novel 'The Water Dancer'

Some believe that the essays of the award-winning writer Ta-Nehisi Coates have helped foster a franker dialogue about race in America. Now he's branched into fiction with“The Water Dancer”, a novel which follows the life of a slave from childhood on a Virginia plantation. There are particularly moving passages in the book about the separation of families. He has been speaking to Martha Kearney about how he drew on contemporary accounts of slavery.

Erudite overview of British business and culture

I enjoy the Today show generally, loved the guest editors, though I thought you’d lost your way travelling to Greta and apologising for having flown rather than sailed. (This may not be true but it was reported as having been the case). Look forward to the year 2020’s podcasts.

What happened to the “best” of Today?

I used to love this podcast, but for several months now it has included little more than the daily business news. What has happened? Is this really the best content that the great Today Programme has to offer? About to unsubscribe after more than 10 year of dedicated listening!

Just a business update now

This podcast used to be great, with lots of segments from the broadcast. Now it is just the business update. Can we get a broader range of topics back please.
