Blak Bias: Native Title and Indigenous Land Ownership in the Media Fourth Estate

    • News

How much do mainstream journalists understand the nuances of land rights, native title, and Indigenous land ownership?

From the birth of the land rights movement to the introduction of native title laws, mainstream media has often struggled to report accurately on issues of Indigenous land ownership. Professor Heidi Norman discusses how this reportage has impacted on the aspirations and self-determination of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders while Dr Valerie Cooms, Chairwoman of the Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation gives you the community perspective on what it's like to be on the other side of those stories.

Blak Bias is a collaboration between IndigenousX.com.au, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), and 2SER Radio. It has been made possible with the support of the Judith Neilson Institute for Journalism and Ideas (JNI).

Co-hosts: Rhianna Patrick and Madeline Hayman-Reber. Produced, edited, and mixed by Marlene Even at 2SER Radio.
