Even During a Pandemic, We need To Talk About Divorce

This is Parenting Tip Tuesday but I have a guest for this episode. Welcome back Gabrielle Hartley to the program.
Gabrielle reached out to me and asked if she could come on the podcast to talk about helping many couples who are quarantine together who might be facing a possible divorce during these uncertain times.
Gabrielle talks about making sure that there are safe spaces in the house. No matter how big or small a dwelling is. This is also an opportunity to create a vision board and, I really had not thought that divorce would bring up that project but it was. One other thing was about just slowing down.
Please, my call to you is that even though you and your former spouse might not like each other. Now it is even more important to be kinder. Yes, for the kids but also for your sanity too.
You can find Gabrielle on the social:

Be safe, be kind and now wash your hands.

    Co-parenting in a Coronavirus World

I have seen several blogs and articles written about how to co-parent during this epidemic.
A traditional family might not be able to understand how different the kids of divorce truly have it. Meaning that they might go months without seeing their parents.
Currently, many states are requiring their citizens to stay home. This can impact divorced families.
For example; according to the newspaper "The South African," the citizens are now being told they need to stay home for 21 days. This means that in a divorce situation that who has the kids currently will maintain them until the 21 days have passed.
Here are my thoughts on this audio about what to do currently but also going forward.
    1. Both Co-parents need to put their ego's aside. The needs of the kids should always come first.
    2. Communication is so key talking to your form spouse. Each day there are different rules depending on your state, city and even your county when it comes to being quarantined.  You must work together and talk about how each other will handle in case there is a mandatory rule of staying home.
    3. Technology will be very useful to the kids as far as them being able to stay in contact with the other parent. Please allow the kids to use video chat platforms. Again this is NOT about you.
    4. Play in the sand in a nice way. This is a good time to hold off on any silly and petty issues between the two of you.

I hope the audio helps and let me know what you are doing when it comes to co-parenting during these times.
Please share this with other parents as well as leave a rating and review to help me live my dream of doing this podcast full time. Thank you so very much.

    EP 144 Divorce Diaries Show

    EP 144 Divorce Diaries Show

Divorce Diaries Show Creator Michele Traina

If you do not ask the question, then the answer will always be no. I happened to be on Instagram when there was a notification that our guest Michele Traina was doing a live video. I jumped on because I've wanted her on the podcast ever since I started to follow her on IG.

I dropped a comment in her feed, and well, here we are.

Michele is someone that, if you get on her wrong side, then you won't be sleeping with the fishes, nope, you will be part of her comedy act. Just ask Police Officer Mike.

On this episode we talk about:
Don't have a meeting with her while you schedule your own meeting with someone else (funny story). Does Michele's daughter think she is funny? Is laughter therapy? From Michele's bio:
Michele Traina is a performer, educator, and creator of multiple performance brands that carry a thread of healing through humor. She has toured around the country from Stand up to Shakespeare. Michele earned her Masters in Educational Theatre from NYU and has her principal, supervisor, and theatre teacher certifications in the state of New Jersey. In 2013 she founded Propbox Players, a theatre company for young audiences geared towards inclusion and performance for diverse learners. Her one-woman show How to Be A Successful Teacher was in United Solo Festival in 2012 as well as multiple other performances in the tri-state area. She continued her one-woman show 'train' when she was getting divorced by putting her diary on the stage. Michele created Divorce Diaries in 2013, and it has evolved into a one-woman comedy show that laughs at life's beautiful mishaps.
A Jersey Native, Michele's work has a trademark accent and physicality to it, unlike anyone else. She's fiercely energetic and uses her own challenges in life to motivate and inspire her practice as an educator and performer. Michele's obsession with coffee, high kicks, and running literally everywhere. Her favorite role will always be a mom to her beautiful daughter, Grace.

    EP 143 Kenneth Braswell

Welcome, Kenneth Braswell to the Show!!

Today I am very inspired to have on the show, Kenneth Braswell. He is a wonderful advocate for promoting positive fatherhood.
    Kenneth's bio:
Kenneth Braswell is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Fathers Incorporated, and works collaboratively with organizations around the country, to identify and advocate for social and legislative changes. This leads to healthy father involvement with children, regardless of the father’s marital or economic status, ethnicity, or geographic location. From employment and incarceration issues, child support and domestic violence, Braswell has worked tirelessly to address long-standing problems; to achieve long-term results for children, their families, the communities, and nation in which they live. Under the leadership of Mr. Braswell, Fathers Incorporated currently serves as the prime contractor for the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse, providing technical assistance to President Obama’s Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative.

Kenneth has spent over 29 years in the service of family and community; beginning his career as a radio broadcaster for 15+ years and a community newspaper publisher for 10 years.

Eventually, Braswell became the Director of the New York State Fatherhood Initiative, overseeing more than $11 million in programs, conducting a $1 million comprehensive evaluation, and managing the NYS Noncustodial Earned Income Tax Credit. Throughout his career, he has managed over $50 million in Fatherhood Programming.

With his unique ability to view the world, through the eyes of children, Braswell created Fathers Incorporated in 2004. With national and international missions, the agency has provided capacity building services to thousands of organizations, working to ensure that fathers contribute to the healthy well-being of their children. .

As a much sought after keynote speaker, presenter, trainer and media consultant, Braswell has been featured and mentioned in Tavis Smiley Show, Essence Magazine, The Crisis, CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Times, The Root, The Huffington Post and numerous of other media outlets.
