Raising Healthy Baby Camels - Selenium & Why It's Needed

Raising Healthy Baby Camels - Selenium & Why It's Needed

The birth of a baby camel is a wonderful thing to witness in a lifetime, but it comes with its risks in a domesticated environment.

There’s a certain care routine needed for a pregnant (and lactating) camel to ensure that the baby camel is born healthy, that, more often than not, includes supplementation and a strict feeding regime.

Unfortunately, we see all too often, either the camel (cow) falling ill and or the baby camel (calf), due to the lack of supplementation - remember, camels are desert animals, they need their supplements.

In this blog, Dr. Margie Bale, Camel Vet, explains the importance of selenium in the pregnant camel’s diet to ensure the baby camel is born healthy and well and able to live a long happy life.

How (when/why) to daisy chain a camel's headstall rope

How (when/why) to daisy chain a camel's headstall rope

This really simple knot means that you can leave your camel's headstall on if they are in regular training, work or you simply want to build confidence in catching your camel.

Since the headstalls that we use are 'one piece' halter/rope setup the Daisy Chain is something we use with our camels all the time.

It's a handy thing to learn and know and you'll find yourself using it sooner or later with your camels.

Watch this short video tutorial on How To Do a Daisy Chain and also the circumstances you'd need to use this rope skill.

Preparing Your Camel For Vet Visit

Who better to explain safe ways to restrain your camel for a vet visit than Camel Vet, Dr. Margie Bale, who, as the title indicates, is experienced with treating camels and making it safe for all involved.

    Supplements Domestic Camels Need

    Supplements Domestic Camels Need

If you're like so many other camel owners whereby you don't have your camels in their natural desert environment, roaming free, then you need to tune into this Camel Vet Talk on supplements domesticated camels NEED.

Dr. Margie Bale - Camel Vet, gives us digestible information on things you need to start adding to your camel's diet TODAY in order to avoid some major health issues in the future.

    Remember...

Camels are survival animals so even though they might “appear” to be healthy and strong, what's going on on their insides might be a different story.

Often camel owners are surprised one day to find their camel had died "unexpectedly" but there most likely was an underlying health issue going on that wasn't picked up on and the camel's body started to fail.

In this talk, you'll get practical How-Tos and feed adjustments to keep our camels healthy and some solutions to some health problems arising.
