Episode 12 - ‘Less work and more life’ balance with Dr Warren Kane

In today’s episode I’m joined by Dr Warren Kane, of Kane Psychiatry.
Warren is a psychiatrist who specializes in helping people with professional burnout, anxiety and depression – sounds like the perfect fit for the podcast.
In today’s episode Warren discusses some of his personal experiences with burnout and how he manages them. Plus, he shares some professional insights and tips to help you reduce and manage burnout and anxiety.
Warren is about helping his clients, and the broader community, to understand the root causes for burnout to make lasting and effective change. And I agree 100% with a root cause approach!

Today he also shared a great framework to help analyse the different areas of your work, or life, that may be out of balance and contributing to burnout. He shares these areas are – workload, control, reward, values, fairness and community. Perhaps you can view an aspect of your life or work in terms of these areas to help diagnose areas for change and attention.

Episode 9 - Be Busy, never lazy with guest Debbie Munn

In today’s episode I chat with Debbie Munn from The You Project. Debbie’s business helps women to feel healthy and happy, and to reach their goals.

In today’s episode Debbie shares about her experience with burnout in her early twenties and the physical effects working too hard had for her. She was burning the candle at both ends and working long hours based on the inherited beliefs that you have to work hard to succeed, and that it is better to be busy than lazy.

She shares how managing diet, lifestyle, starting yoga and learning to rest and take breaks helped her to recover and how she engaged in nurturing her body and mind, and connecting with friends to have a more balanced and fulfilling life.
Debbie maintains energy and wellbeing today with regular exercise – that is right for her body at the time, cup filling time in nature, surrounding herself with great friends and getting quality sleep every night.

Episode 8 – Learning to let go and say no with guest Lesa Blackham

Today I am joined by Lesa from Lesa Blackham Coaching.
Through her coaching Lesa helps women to reclaim their right to thrive, unleash their true potential and live life with out limitations.

As a school teacher, Lesa experienced frequent stress, overwhelm and burnout and spent every school holiday recovering from it. Like me, she now uses her work as part of her mission to reduce stress, burnout and anxiety in her own and her client’s lives.

Through cutting back on work, gaining awareness and understanding of her mind and yoga and meditation Lesa learnt to reduce and manage stress better, and increase her sleep and health. The biggest difference was learning how to say no and put her own needs first.
Lesa’s tips now for managing stress and burnout are simple and powerful –
She starts with regular mental check ins to see how she’s feeling and where her thoughts are at. She encourages you to start this quick and simple practice regularly for yourself too.
She then ensures she is managing her wellbeing and self care through simple things like movement, nourishing foods and quality sleep. She also fills her cup regularly with downtime doing fun and enjoyable things like beach walks and hanging out with friends.

Episode 7 - Exploration and Alignment with guest Romina Cavagnola from Alchemy of Alignment Publishing

Episode 7 - Exploration and Alignment with guest Romina Cavagnola from Alchemy of Alignment Publishing

My guest today, Romina, is a story coach and publisher guiding women in connecting with, articulating, writing and publishing their soul stories.
Romina’s stress levels and burnout occurred when she found herself working in a dysfunctional organisation where her role was constantly changing and she had increasing expectations placed on her, without training or support to learn roles outside of her scope.
After returning from maternity leave with a one-year-old and recently separated from her now ex-husband, Romina found herself thrown into the deep end once again and dissatisfied and disenfranchised with the job. As she decided she needed to move on, she was offered a redundancy package and path out.
After leaving this role, the stress continued as she hunted for a ‘unicorn’ job that didn’t exist, wound up living with her parents for 6 weeks after breaking her ankle and then selling her apartment in a pandemic effected market. Romina took this 6 months without work as time to recover, and face these other life challenges that came up, before realising she wasn’t finding new work as a job wasn’t aligning with her.
From here, she started to find work as a freelance writer, and now story coach and has come to a place of ease and balance in working on her own terms and with independence.
For Romina, burnout didn’t just resolve the day she left that old job, but rather eased as she came into alignment with herself and found a way of working that serves her. She shared that it has been a process of exploration and finding what makes her feel good day to day, noticing when change is needed in her life, and stopping feeling guilty that have helped her heal the most.
