Start with Season 2

While season 1 (Vox Machina) is an AMAZING story most definitely worth experiencing, the earlier episodes were filmed and recorded in a time where the Critical role format wasn’t very refined and established. This makes episodes 1-~18 somewhat more challenging to listen to in podcast form. This is why I’d recommend starting with season 2 (The mighty nein) as it not only has a completely seperate story to Season 1 (bar some small references or mentions of minor thing) but also the quality of the recordings and play style are easier to follow, allowing you to become familiar with the cast and the game.

Well

Welp I’ve been playing for only a couple years and I’ve been inspired by Matt and the critical role crew to start dming my own world, after 3 sessions I’ve grown to respect even more the amount of time and effort that gets put into a game like this and “ the adventure zone” crazy respect to both these shows

Hard to marathon.

So a couple things, it took me 19 episodes to realise Percy was a seperate character. I couldn’t tell the difference between Vax, Percy and Scanlans voices, and the episodes are really difficult to listen to in one sitting let alone marathon them (usually between 2.5-5 hours per episode is hard when there are other things to do in the day)
I do love the voice work and the DM is great. Tiberius in particular is my favourite character for voice.
When I manage to catch up to S2 I’ll write another review, but it’s not likely to be for a year or so I think.
