Producer Jonathan Hirsch had a childhood much like yours -- except his family had a secret. They were followers of a controversial spiritual leader named Franklin Jones. To Jonathan’s parents, Franklin Jones was a god, but to people outside the group, Jones was a cult leader. Now, Jonathan is going back, trying to find out what happened -- and whether the group really did become a cult.

Beautifully Presented

If you enjoyed Someone Knows something's style of story-telling and exploratory podcasting, you will adore Dear Franklin Jones. Our host is incredibly personable, the story intriguing and the podcast easy to listen to whether you go one episode at a time or binge the entire story. Hoping for many more episodes to come!

What? That’s it?!

I ended up to signing up to Stitcher Premium to listen to ‘The Full Season’

It turns out, it’s only 7 episodes...
It finishes unexpectedly on a bunch of pointless philosophical cliches.

I had hoped that it was building to something meaningful.
The podcast barely scratches the surface, I was hoping it might explore some of the strange beliefs of the cult or why people were so wrapped up in this spiritual guru, his origins or what distinguished him.

A far better podcast is Heaven’s gate which unpacks the cult (Heaven’s Gate) from all angles including families, past members and current members, outlays the strange beliefs that ultimately led to a mass suicide of 39 people.
