Stuart Scheller | A Lesson in Moral Courage & Accountability

Stuart Scheller | A Lesson in Moral Courage & Accountability

Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Scheller has served the US Marine Corps Infantry for 17 years. Scheller was relieved of his command for publicly demanding senior US military brass take “accountability” for overseeing the execution of the pullout from Afghanistan after 13 troops died in the suicide bombing of August 26, 2021.
An infantry officer with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, Scheller crashed into the national dialogue following a now-viral Aug. 26 social media video of him speaking out in uniform. His demands for accountability from military and political leadership, both current and past, for the conduct of the war in Afghanistan eventually saw him jailed and court-martialed.

Jenny Radcliffe | Understanding the Power of Social Engineering

Jenny Radcliffe is a social engineer and security expert. She focuses on the human elements that are so often exploited by those seeking to gain unauthorized access online and in the real world. Branded a ‘people hacker’, as well as bypassing the strictest security she can diffuse a crisis and spot a lie in seconds. Like ethical hackers in the digital world, Jenny exposes security flaws for the greater good – to highlight weaknesses, raise awareness, and enable fixes. She considers natural human instincts, and those enabled by organizational culture. She looks at the science of behavior and questions our assumptions and the people we trust. She examines how to put security at the forefront without making systems and processes overly complex.

If you want to hear balanced and common sense conversations about real issues that impact leadership in work and life then this is the podcast for you. I listen to Richard on my drive to work as it gets me thinking and puts me in a great mood for the day. I love the range of topics and the easy camaraderie Richard shares with his guests. He always has top notch people who are interesting, intelligent and humble. I especially enjoy the discussions and lessons learnt from military personnel. One of my favourite sayings that Richard repeats regularly is “Be the calm, composed force in a chaotic situation” - love it!! So simple and so powerful….something I am striving for every day and getting closer to thanks to the insights from this podcast.

One if your five!

From the perspective of 'one of your five', you should consider including Lt. General James Maurice Gavin. His core value, amongst countless other admirable attributes, was that 'a commander should be first out the airplane door and last in the chow line'.

There is no greater leader.

Sincerely,

Andrew Dowling
