For a major organisation, this is embarrassingly poor quality. Very poor recording quality, where the speakers breathing is sometimes louder than their speaking, and you can hear papers rustling. Very poor / awkward translations, where one report suggested that the Russian and Japanese leaders should hold hands. Some pronunciations / accents are terrible and frustrating to listen to.
It's focused on world news, which is better provided by any other English services like the ABC, BBC, CNN, and hundreds of others. But does not say much about what is happening inside of Japan. For instance, I can get better news about South Sudan from the BBC, but ironically, the BBC seems to offer better coverage of Japanese domestic news than this NHK service. Because this is so overly focused on Japan on the world stage, it feels like its' main purpose is to be a propaganda outlet.
