Episode 106 - New Managerial Appointments for Christmas The Total Football Podcast

    • Sport

Part 1
The master versus the apprentice. A story as old as time. And on this occasion the apprentice bested his old teacher as Chelsea came out 2-0 victors over Tottenham Hotspur. This was a bizarre match that was filled with glorious narrative. Unfortunately, this is also another in a string of recent Premier League fixtures to be marred by racial abuse of players.

Hello and welcome to the Total Football podcast, I am your host Declan Harte, and joining me is Andrew Conway.

Andrew, we spoke about this a couple weeks ago but nothing came of it then. Is there anything to suggest we might see a different outcome this time?

Part 2
Top 4 race also saw a dent in the neutral’s entertainment value as 4th place Chelsea won 2-0 away at 5th place Tottenham. Was that Chelsea’s best performance of the season, or did Tottenham just implode in front of them?

Liverpool were off to Qatar this week to win the Club World Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

Meanwhile their title lead barely took a dent as Leicester City lost at the Etihad despite taking the lead. A good comeback from Man City, but surely that’s the title race over and done with?

Man United’s slim top 4 hopes look dead and buried despite the return of Paul Pogba. A limp display for 70 minutes before Pogba was brought on to liven things up, but United couldn’t score a single goal away at the bottom of the table club Watford

Part 3
On Saturday Everton took on Arsenal in what can easily be described as one of the worst and most pointless games of football to have ever taken place. Both teams had announced new managerial appointments within 24 hours of kickoff, but both could only sit in the stands as the 22 men on the pitch played out a dreary and dull 0-0 draw. Which of these two new managers, Mikel Arteta and Carlo Ancelotti respectively, have the bigger or more difficult task at hand?

Part 4
We’ve got ourselves a holiday treat this week, a festive feast of football appears before us as every club plays 3 games in the next 10 days. Let’s take a look at the next two games and see which fixtures stand out
