In this episode of The Long View, Clare looks at skills, vocational education and training with two skills experts: John Daley, former head of the Grattan Institute and now senior fellow at Grattan with a special focus on skills and education; and Megan Lilly, head of workforce development at the Australian Industry Group, the peak body for Australian industry.

It's clear that Australia's VET system isn't where it should be, with skills coming up again and again throughout this season. Businesses need more workers with better skills, young people need more guidance, and governments need to step up. COVID-19 presents both threats and opportunities: with unemployment skyrocketing and skilled migration now on hold, what are we going to do to retrain and re-skill our workforce? How can we ensure our training system is giving graduates the skills they need? Why is quality so low, and non-completion rates so high? And why on earth hasn't this been fixed already?
