Leading Off

Hi. We hope this episode finds you well – in good health and good spirits.

After a way-too-eventful week on the field, the Orioles have a very eventful trade deadline. This week was certainly exciting. We talk about how that should make us feel.

This Week on the Twitters

Here’s what’s going on in the world of Orioles Baseball, in 280 characters, or fewer:

We’ve seen an increase in ‘copypasta,’ an attempt by many accounts to copy, paste, and Tweet the same phrase. 🍝🔁When we see this behavior, we may limit the visibility of the Tweets. https://t.co/OCVudJPXPm— Twitter Comms (@TwitterComms) August 27, 2020

What's up with all these extremely similar tweets from enraged former fans/season ticket holders? #Copypasta #ThursdayThoughtscc: @ZellaQuixote pic.twitter.com/0oHn3unxMu— Conspirador Norteño (@conspirator0) August 27, 2020

That seals the deal. I am no longer an Orioles fan. I’ve been a fan since 1982 and a season ticket holder since 1996. I officially will not be renewing my plan next season nor will I watch on tv ever again. Elias is officially the worst gm in history.— Will Shiflett (@will61375) July 13, 2019

Ch ch ch ch changes

In the preceding weeks, Jake has been predicting a quiet trade deadline, not just for the Orioles, but for baseball as a whole.

Welp. He was lots of wrong.

The Orioles unloaded the cupboard, and brought in a surprising haul of prospects and players to be named later. The Birds are clearly still in a talent acquisition mode, and… we’re OK with that.

Around the Bases

FIRST BASE

After putting Jake to shame in the first segment, we turn the microscope on Scott, as we revisit the subject of whether Ryan Mountcastle – and specifically his power – is disappointing at the Major League level.

SECOND BASE

How do you solve a problem like Rio Ruiz? Is this a blip, a slump, or a regression to an inevitable mean?

THIRD BASE

Where are the Orioles going to get innings? After dealing Tommy Milone, and much of the value in the bullpen, how are they going to keep from tearing the arms off of the arms that are left?

HOME PLATE

Are they who we thought they were? The Orioles have “cooled” since their 12-8 start. Are they this bad? Will they ever be 12-8 good again?
