Poverty is a daily reality for millions of Australian women 55 and over. There are many compounding factors contributing to this sad reality; lack of superannuation, working part time or casually through long periods of time and the gender pay gap are a few examples. In 2021, the gender pay gap was 14.2 %, meaning that women earn on average $260 per week less than men. Australia’s national gender pay gap has hovered between 13% and 19% for the past two decades.
In this episode, we speak to Dawn Thomas, National Chair for the Inspire Community of Practice and Katherine Hayes, NSW State Director at the AFA. We discuss how financial advice can be a catalyst in improving women’s economic security in Australia
