    The Pizza Tower Special

    The Pizza Tower Special

Well gosh darn it the boys done recorded another prodcarste. This week we review the Game Cube version of Wario Ware (haven't we covered that game already?), Rob has been playing the Steam release of Dwarf Fortress and sinking enemy shipping in Silent Hunter 3, while AC has been playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the new Mario Kart tracks. Plus we discuss exciting adult topics like the housing market and using the Play School theme to uncover fake Australians.

Our intro and outro music was supplied by Animanaguchi (without their knowledge, it's not like we know them or anything).

Episode 110 - The Monkeys Have Invented Speedos

Episode 110 - The Monkeys Have Invented Speedos

We're back after a 7-month break because we're nothing if not dynamic go-getters. And as always with every 5th episode it's an unstructured Stream of Nonsense, so strap in for listening joy as your hosts AC and Rob discuss the Big Tennis Racket, speedos, the joy of a samey sequel, Mickey Mouse's lack of comedic talent, how good Smash TV is (spoilers - it's very good), weird versions of DOOM, the John Candy classic Uncle Buck, and obnoxious method actors. In video game news, Wormsfest 2023 was a hit, AC has been playing Atari 50 and got his paws on another version of the thrilling Japanese train driving game Densha de Go!, while Rob has done nothing but play Hell Let Loose for the last 6 months and is looking more grizzled than a McDonalds quarter pounder patty. Plus AC goes joyriding in a vintage car, the podcast moves to Anchor FM, and more!

    Episode 109 – Numero Uno

    Episode 109 – Numero Uno

We’re back! Yes that’s right, we recorded another episode purely out of SPITE because Game/Life Balance US is back from the dead and we simply cannot let the Americans win! This week your old pals AC and Rob review a charming and little-known Sega Saturn game from Japan called Uno DX, which is something like a cross between Uno, a fighting game and an anime about high school. It’s supoib! Also in this stellar episode: Rob has been trying his best to keep his daughter from hurting herself, and playing a wide variety of video games with her, while playing pretty much only one video game by himself! Meanwhile AC has been spending three months of his life traipsing (or should we say gallivanting?) around Japan, catching up with family and friends, successfully avoiding the dreaded lurgi, and doing a bit of videogamesmanship on the way. PLUS we discuss Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection, AC’s Satellaview, Rob’s Hell Let Loose shenanigans, AC’s trip to Super Nintendo World, and we wrap it all up with a quiz about Same Name Reboot Games!

Episode 108 – The Next Prime Minister

In this long-overdue episode we discuss the Australian federal elections, Pac-Man Versus, Rob’s bachelor party and wedding, The Legend of Tianding, Battlefield V, Hell Let Loose, the Urusei Yatsura reboot, Golf With Your Friends, Phantasy Star Online 2, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Skyrim in VR. Plus a fun quiz about Pac-Man!

Episode 107 – The McDonalds Extended Universe

Episode 107 – The McDonalds Extended Universe

The boys are back from the dead for a devilish double feature! This week AC and Rob review not just one but TWO Feature Games: they’re both arcade games and they were both released in 1996, but they’re very different beasts. First the arcade brawler “Dungeons and Dragons: Shadows Over Mystara” released in 1996, and a bizarre Korean platformer called “Fancy World.”

We also discuss the origin story of the Hamburglar, family holiday activities, price fluctuations in the Shantae market, Rob’s daughter playing Mario Odyssey, a trip to an arcade in country NSW, why ticket machines took over arcades, a quiz about monsters in Dungeons and Dragons, and so much more!

Episode 106 – The G Stands For Good Game

This week the boys are joined once more by the lovely Joanna to discuss games and life and everything in between! Our featured game this week (month?) is F-Zero GX for the Game Cube, but we also discuss many more things including Crusader Kings, hospitalisations, lockdown blues, Joanna's new job, Katamari Damacy and so much more!

Rambling. Incoherent. A Glorious Train Wreck.

These two Aussie louts not only take the listener into forgotten corners of computer gaming’s rusty back catalog, they also take us into the intricacies of their plodding personal lives in the outer suburbs of their great nation’s capital city.

AC (possibly initials for Artorius Castus, who knows) sounds like some form of recovering alcoholic rescued by an incredibly patient wife he met whilst being in overseas tax exile.

Rob on the other hand sounds like he’s got better places to be and a life outside of obsolete entertainment technology and is merely doing the show to help keep AC on the wagon. Still one can’t deny he’s having fun watching out for his happy friend.

In any case this show will appeal to a specialty audience looking for a Dadaesque stream of nonsense filled with dated gaming trivia and hilarious tidbits about the Australian lifestyle. Once you’ve experienced Game/Life Balance Australia you’ll agree that prior to listening to this show you never knew podcasts like this were even possible.
