275: Are you a shopaholic? What is this habit costing you?

275: Are you a shopaholic? What is this habit costing you?

Are you a shopaholic? Yes? Maybe you wear it as a badge of honour? But have you ever stopped and questioned what this habit costs you? And we're not just talking about your pocket here!

    Stuff we talked about...
    - When you make a purchase you get a dopamine hit. But after that, you feel buyer's remorse.
    - Where you spend money tells us what you value the most in life.
    - Think before buying. If you don't have self-awareness, you'll get sucked in with marketing.
    - Instead of thinking about what you lack, think about what you have.
    - Contentment, acceptance and getting real with yourself can help you get out of the thought pattern that you need more to be more.
    - Acknowledge environmental issues when you shop. Your purchase is making an impact on the environment no matter how big or small it is.

Watch out for the next episode as we talk about multiple income streams and how to bring them into your life, not so you can shop more, but to create financial freedom!

274: asking for refunds and fair play - The Merry Money Series

274: asking for refunds and fair play - The Merry Money Series

Money really is one of our favourite subjects. It was always such a taboo topic for us, but as we got into business we fast realised that we had to get comfortable about the topic.

This episode is inspired by a very expensive strawberry tart that Damiano bought on the weekend. It was so pretty and really quite delicious… but the unexpected price tarnished the whole experience.

Have you ever had one of those experiences, where you go to the counter and purchase something, they give you the price and the EFTPOS machine and it’s about double or triple what you thought it would be?
Then you just tap your card and feel resentful after and you don’t enjoy your strawberry tart (or whatever it was you bought). Yeh, us too.

The purpose of this episode is help you feel empowered with your money and not be ashamed to ask for what you want (even if it feels silly). And yeh, we are just talking about a strawberry tart… but this strawberry tart represents a lot.

    Stuff we talked about…
    - Your money is your money. You get to do what you want with it.
    - The customer is not always right. But, it’s important for a business owner to treat each customer with respect and understanding.
    - Word of mouth is the best kind of marketing.
    - If you are in a position where you can invest in something, then do. There are always risks in investing and also in not investing.
    - Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Have a buffer and a rainy day savings account.
    - Ask for a refund, only when the refund is valid.
    - Practising the little things can help with the big things.

Start with the first step. Read a book. Listen to money podcasts. Talk to financial advisors and accountants. Talk to friends about money.

Be empowered with your money. Have fun spending and saving it.

273: So you think you’re not creative?

273: So you think you’re not creative?

Do you resonate with being creative… or have you forever deemed yourself a non-creative type? Ahhh the word ‘creative’ is such a loaded word. It brings up so much and it also can divide us. But really… the magic of art and creativity is that it unites us. It makes us feel, it connects us to our emotions, it heals us… it reminds us of our humanity.

Whether you see yourself as creative or not, tune into this episode. Get inspired to create something from nothing. Get excited to explore, enjoy and celebrate art.

PLUS, you’ll get to hear Midnight Express to Rome’s new single, Disintegrate.

    Stuff we talked about…
    - Art is subjective, so if you got told you sucked at art/music in school… maybe it’s time to let go of that belief.
    - When you have an idea, it’s a choice… take action or ignore it.
    - Music is actual magic. In a world where our minds are getting numbed by social media and Netflix, music (and all art) makes you feel something and invitees you to reflect.
    - The magic of Yoga, another creative expression.
    - Listen to Damiano Mex and his band, Midnight Express to Rome’s new single Disintegrate at gyro.lnk.to/Disintegrate and find them on Facebook over here: facebook.com/midnightexpresstorome

If you are creative and want to share your art with us, send us an email at carla@themerrymakersisters.com or emma@themerrymakersisters.com or message us on our Facebook and Instagram account @themerrymakersisters.

272: Bubbles and roads less travelled

272: Bubbles and roads less travelled

At the end of recording this podcast episode we had a real moment of ‘why would anyone want to listen to us’ moment. Yes, we still get them. Even though thousands of people tune in every week (what the heck… this still blows our minds, and thank YOU for listening).

But this episode, in particular, we kind of just rambled on about our thoughts. What was going on in our lives this. Maybe you’ll get something from it, hopefully, you will! Hahaha.

The crazy thing but, after this moment of who are we to think people want to listen to us, we had 2 messages on Instagram from amazing women telling us how much they loved the podcast. So thank YOU. Those messages meant a lot and they might even be the reasons why we hit publish on this episode.
This episode is about creating your own space, your own bubble away from the rest of the world. Must say, upon reflection, it comes from a world of privilege, as not everyone can escape their world. We wish we mentioned that on the episode… butahhhh lessons from self-reflection are a magical thing.

We also get on the topic of taking that path that is less travelled. The freshness of getting away from your routine and knowing that your path less travelled might actually be a path that is well travelled.

    Stuff we talked about…
    - When you step out of your usual routine, you have more space for ideas to flow in.
    - Reading someone’s book can take you into another world, another bubble.
    - Go inwards and ask yourself “what do you know you need to do that you’re not doing?”
    - If you feel like you’re travelling on someone else’s path, then you’re not on the right path.
    - As you grow and get older, you begin to learn more about yourself and the world around you.
    - There’s no reason why we can’t experience something different in the confinement of our homes.

Any questions or topic ideas send us an email at carla@themerrymakersisters.com or ;emma@themerrymakersisters.com or message us on our Facebook and Instagram account @themerrymakersisters.

    271: Materialism and Financial Independence

    271: Materialism and Financial Independence

In this episode, we chat about the lessons that we’ve learned from our spending and saving habits.

    Stuff we talked about…
    - Studies show adding more material possessions actually causes unhappiness.
    - World’s happiest people are in small communities.
    - Giving generates happiness.
    - If you feel like you’re struggling with money, step outside the box and think differently about how you can bring it into your life.
    - Look at the patterns of your spending. What can you change that doesn’t impact your life negatively eg. walking to the shops instead of driving.;

270: Are you breaking boundaries in your relationships?

270: Are you breaking boundaries in your relationships?

If you have a relationship with any other human, boundaries are important! We chat about setting boundaries, breaking boundaries and how they really do make life better.

    Stuff we talked about…
    - The whole idea of boundaries is checking in with yourself, with your decisions, who you spend your time with, what choices you’re making and why you’re making those choices.
    - Keep yourself healthy, happy and peaceful with emotional boundaries.
    - Communication is key when it comes to boundaries. Don’t assume that the other person is on the same page.
    - It’s important in every relationship to have your own passion, have a separate life and then come together, share the magic.
    - Boundaries can be amazing but they can also take some of the mystery and magic from life. It’s ok if you lose balance.
    - You are allowed to change your boundaries.

If you’ve got questions, comments, feedback or story, share them with us by sending us an email at carla@themerrymakersisters.com & or emma@themerrymakersisters.com or on our Facebook and Instagram account @themerrymakersisters.

.

I really want to like this podcast, it seems like great content but I can’t get past all the “mmms” and “yeahs” it gets very grating very quickly. Give the guest some space so we can hear what they’re saying

Robyns ipod ,

I wish I had found this a long time ago

I recently heard these enchanting girls on another podcast. I just love the real and refreshing ideas and thinking they share with the world. I listen to them on my drive to work everyday at the moment. I am working backwards with the podcasts. I have the app too as I live Pilates and want to practice at home more often.
So glad I found them x
