Choosing Folate Forms For Your Fertility

Choosing Folate Forms For Your Fertility

So you know that folate is important for your pregnancy and baby health, but when it comes to looking at foods and supplements for your preconception and pregnancy, it might cause you some confusion.
There is more to it than grabbing a folic acid containing prenatal off the chemist shelf to cover your needs.
As new research emergences, the way we prescribe folate is also evolving. If you’re wondering what the difference is between the folate in your foods, the folic acid in supplements and the new buzz word, methyl folate, stick around, I’m going to break this down for you and explain the importance of getting the right folate for your fertility.
So you can avoid a deficiency, dangerous build up and the complications associated with this for you and baby.

How To Poo Properly ~ with Naturopath & Colon Hydrotherapist Kirsty King

How To Poo Properly ~ with Naturopath & Colon Hydrotherapist Kirsty King

    Are you pooing properly?
I know, personal question. But as a Naturopath, toilet talk is a regular topic of discussion.
Issues with pooing can range from irregular frequency, straining on the loo, to incomplete bowel movements with the feeling that there's something inside shortly after your toilet stop.
This can lad to a cycle of abdominal bloating, discomfort, foul smelling gas and contributes to toxin build up and hormone imbalance, such as oestrogen dominance.
Time to get out the Bristol stool chart and tune into my chat today with Naturopath & Colon Hydrotherapist Kirsty King.  We're going back to stool school ;)
Kirsty is a gut health obsessed naturopath and colon hydrotherapist on a mission to make the world a healthier and happier place. Kirsty recently opened Gut Recovery Centre where she works alongside other practitioners to help clients get to the bottom of their gut issues so they can take back control of their health and have positive poo experiences.
Kirsty joins me for episode 87 on the Glowing Mumma Thriving Bubba podcast.

A Gut Healing & Homeschooling Journey ~ with Quirky Cooking's Jo Whitton

A Gut Healing & Homeschooling Journey ~ with Quirky Cooking's Jo Whitton

Are you curious about education options for your children? Or perhaps you're looking for gut health inspiration for you and your loved ones? This is an episode just for you.
As my daughters 5 year old birthday approaches, I can feel the pressure of our schooling decisions for her getting building up. We've always had a Steiner school as our preference for our daughter, however our move to the country wasn't quite close enough to pursue this choice. I'm now leaning towards homeschooling, but understand this is a massive commitment but also comes with a whole lot of beautiful bonuses. Amelia is excited by the thought of our days on the farm, learning through play and life skills and yes, amongst interaction with out-of-the-home activities and sports... but we're still working on hubby.
I just love hearing other Mumma's experiences and today I explore homeschooling from a Mumma of four and gut healing cookbook queen herself, Jo Whitton.
Jo Whitton lives in Far North Queensland where she runs her business, Quirky Cooking, from home and enjoys the country life. Due to food intolerances in her family (herself and her four children), Jo began researching ways to improve their health through diet from the time her kids were very young. In 2008 she began a blog,  Quirky Cooking, to share what she was learning and the recipes she was developing for her family. In 2014, Jo’s son Isaac was diagnosed with severe OCD and anxiety, which resulted in a deep dive into gut health and food as medicine. Not only did Isaac’s mental health stabilise, but her whole family saw massive improvements in their health. Jo has since helped thousands of families to heal with food, sharing the principles she used to heal her own family.
Jo runs health seminars, cooking workshops, retreats and other events both in Australia and overseas, sharing how to transition to a healing, whole food diet in a doable and sustainable way. She also shares podcasts and videos and facilitates gut health programs to support people working through healing with food, regularly develops new recipes for her audience, and shares daily  cooking videos from her kitchen on social media. Jo is the author of three best-selling cookbooks: “Quirky Cooking”, “Life-Changing Food” and “Simple Healing Food”.
    In this episode we explore:
An introduction into Jo's family, their personal health challenges that lead them to embark their healing journey. The GAPS diet and their incredible gut healing experience. How and when they were able to reintroduce dairy into their diet, without reactions.
What a typical day of meals looked like on the intro and full GAPS phases and some tips for navigating this with a family.
What meals look like now they are not following the full GAPS diet and what foods are still potential triggers for them.
When and why Jo began educating her children from home. What their days looked like while home schooling The homeschooling approach Jo took. How she found the balance between work life and mum life as a home schooling Mum. Most rewarding moments educating your children from home. How her children have transitioned into work after home schooling. Plus more!

How The GAPS Diet Heals ~ with Integrative Nutritionist & GAPS Practitioner Elyse Comerford

How The GAPS Diet Heals ~ with Integrative Nutritionist & GAPS Practitioner Elyse Comerford

As Dr Natasha Cambell Mcbride states "In healthy gut flora, a digestive disorder cannot develop."
So have I got your attention?
If you're going around in circles with your health, feel like you've tried all the things for either small niggly symptoms or major signs of disturbed health and just stuck with where to from here, coming back to your gut health is likely where you need to turn.
Yes, your gut microbiome and gut integrity is at the core of your overall health and wellbeing.
When it comes to supporting all aspects of gut healing, the GAPS diet is one that deserves more air time. It does overwhelm most at the initial thought of it (me included), but if you're committed to allowing the healing to occur and supporting all areas of your health, particularly the way you function and feel mentally, this is a game changer.
Cue one of Australia's top 'GAPS Diet' practitioners, Elyse Comerford.
Elyse Comerford, founder of Well Belly Health Clinic, is an Integrative Nutritionist and Certified GAPS (Gut & Psychology/Physiology Syndrome) Practitioner, Keynote Speaker, Mentor, and most importantly, Mum to Dylan.
Elyse’s primary focus for the past decade has been in private practice, helping thousands of families overcome a whole host of health issues through the implementation of nourishing and healing principles, reducing toxic stress, and the GAPS protocol.
Elyse has developed online programs, seminars and retreats that have changed the lives of thousands. Elyse’s stress-less approach to health has been game changing for many, taking health from overwhelming to sustainable for every day busy families.
Elyse has worked closely with Quirky Cooking’s Jo Whitton for the past 7 years, creating programs, retreats, and collaborating on Jo’s latest cookbook, ‘Simple Healing Foods’. You can also hear Elyse speak on a number of podcasts including ‘A Quirky Journey’, ‘Low-Tox Life’ and ‘Primal Alternative Podcast’.
Elyse’s approach is based on taking the normal "guilt, blame, shame and deprivation” and completely turning it on its head, focussing instead on healing, nourishing, and listening to the body.
What We Cover: An insight into Elyse's personal health journey and what lead her to do the work she does to support people through the GAPS diet. What the GAPS diet is, how it began and how it is different to other gut healing diets (such as low FODMAP for SIBO). The stages of a GAPS diet- difference between intro and full GAPS and when you know when you are ready to change from one stage to the next.  When you should consider following a GAPS diet. When not to follow the GAPS diet and Elyse's thoughts around GAPS during pregnancy, breastfeeding, babies and young children. The contributing factors for dark circles under eyes in children and her approach to supporting their health.  Why parasite cleansing is not supportive for your gut health. How to overcome bowel movement changes during the GAPS diet- bth loose bowels and constipation.  What is going wrong with conventional baby food introductions and how to set babies up from the beginning for healthy gut health through foods.  Personally why and what healing Elyse notices when she follows GAPS intro.  Tips for kids birthday parties- how to navigate for a healthy gut in children.  Plus more!
Happy listening &  look forward to continuing the convo across on my @GlowingMumma.ThrivingBubba insta :)

The Homesteading Way ~ with Mary-anne Mickan From Korinya Farm Gate

The Homesteading Way ~ with Mary-anne Mickan From Korinya Farm Gate

I don't drink milk, but I'm thinking of getting a milking cow for our little farm. Crazy right?
But when I say I don't drink milk, that's the pasteurised version of cows milk. The raw, enzyme rich, fresh milk from our own cow will be something else. Oh and I'll be lining up for the cream too- delicious homemade butter on tap!
I also think it will be so wholesome for my girls to grow up taking care of, helping to milk and of course, benefiting nutritionally from having our own family milking cow. Something I too had snippets of growing up.
So when I shared our vison for our little farm on instagram, one of my patents said I just had to follow Mary-anne from Korinya Farm Gate. I jumped across to her page, took a quick scroll and instantly fell in love with what they've created from their homestead and the inspiring life they lead for their children.
Whether having a large scale farm, productive backyard or some herb pots to handpick is a dream for you, you'll love this down to earth chat between a Naturopath & passionate farmer and homesteading Mum.
Mary-anne Mickan, along with her husband Scott and four children are a family of full time farmers & homesteaders of Korinya Farm Gate.
Mary-anne is passionate about her family - their health and wholeness is always her priority. She adores milking their small dairy herd, growing food & cooking with nutrient dense ingredients. The use of essential oils, herbs, minerals and homeopathic remedies support her family and livestock on a daily basis.
Korinya farm gate is a family owned and operated business with a focus on family, sustainability, education and passion for the animals. Their passion lies in the holistic way - from paddock, to plate, for you.
In between milking, homeschooling and homesteading duties, I recorded a chat with Mary-anne to learn about this wholesome way of living and farming in a regenerative way.
