008: Finding Happiness after Loss with Tessa Stowe

Tessa Stowe talks about the diagnosis of her husband’s brain cancer, and the events that lead up to his final day. She shares details of her connection with her late husband and how she arrived at being happy again.
In this episode of the podcast, we’re talking about losing a spouse to brain cancer and the mental and physical effects grief has on the body. Tessa details her grieving process as awful but after years of receiving numerous signs, from her late husband, she began to feel reassured. Now Tessa helps others find happiness after loss.
“It's reassuring because when people die, all that's happened is a body has gone. But the spirit lives forever and they're giving so many signs. In fact, I really feel sorry for spirits where they're throwing all these signs at their loved ones and the loved ones are ignoring them.”   Tessa Stowe

007 Caregiver’s in Crisis with Joanne Williams

007 Caregiver’s in Crisis with Joanne Williams

Joanne Williams talks about guilt, her experiences working in long term care homes, statistics on the current suicide rate with caregivers, Covid-19 and the economy.
In this episode of the podcast, we’re talking about how guilt can lead to depression and the distinction between grief and depression. Joanne shares her experiences working in long term care homes helping people transition and the guilt family members face around death. We touch on the differences of elderly care in other parts of the world and the alarming suicide rate within the caregiving communities in America because they are understaffed, stressed and overworked.
“When I saw this statistic and I think it was from an Alzheimer's organization, that 80 percent, I believe it was of the caregivers succumb to an illness before the person they were caring for died. So, there is a complete strain on that caregiver.
And the other statistic that really concerns me is that now, along with 18 to 24 year old’s, but unpaid caregivers now the suicide rate has doubled. I think people are just getting so overwhelmed.”   Joanne Williams

006 - The Soul Train is Coming with Kathy D. Wagner

Kathy writes a book trilogy about the loss of her two sons, losing nine relatives in nine years and what that has taught her about family values.
In this episode of the podcast, we talk about writing as a way of easing the pain after losing several loved ones and constructive yet adventurous ways of healing after loss. Kathy shares her method of grief relief, finding solace in nature and how it has changed her life for the better.
“I call it the Soul Train. The Soul Train roared into town. My dad used to drive trains when I grew up. And they came right through our town. And he always told us if we went around the gate when the train was coming, we were going to be killed. So, I always equated those trains coming to death. So, when all these people started dying, I kept saying, you know, the Soul Train is coming and just taking all these people.”   Kathy D. Wagner
