In 1983, Paladin Press, a fringe publisher, released a book called Hit Man: A Technical Manual for Independent Contractors. The author, who went by the pen name Rex Feral, offered very specific tips for the aspiring contract killer— where to find employment, how much to charge...and how to get away with murder. Ten years later, Tiffani Horn’s mother, 8-year-old brother, and a close family friend were found murdered. The exhaustive investigation involved multi-state surveillance and wiretaps, but it wasn’t until detectives stumbled upon Hit Man that they suddenly had what they called a blueprint for the murders. Hosted by journalist Jasmyn Morris.

Need to write my thoughts

I’m astounded at the lack of responsibility taken by the owner of the publishing company that sold “Hit Man”. Esp. the quote to Times magazine about being no different to the car salesman who sells a vehicle that later runs someone down. Cars are not made by design to kill people - their purpose is transportation, you’d be hard pressed to find vehicles that are designed to kill human beings. Selling a book with instructions on how to do just that is like selling a weaponised car en masse.

I’d rate this 5 stars but the ads are incredibly loud and frustrating to listen to. Normally I don’t mind them, esp. on channels like Wondery where I’ll just let them run, but this podcast just cranks the volume so loudly it’s anxiety provoking.
