How sports apparel innovation is changing the game with George Monemvasitis The Big Deal - Australian Sports Business Podcast

    • Business

Sports apparel innovators are on the verge of solving a multi-trillion dollar brand protection problem, while opening up unprecedented fan experience opportunities.

George Monemvasitis, founder of Solos, has been pioneering in the wearable sports technology space for around 25 years.

Solos has been providing textile-embedded technologies to some of the world's biggest brands, including the NBA, NFL and Spain's La Liga, as well as the GWS Giants, Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Phoenix at home.

George joined The Big Deal podcast to talk about how to tackle the enormous brand protection problem. Counterfeited apparel is estimated to have a market cost of $2.2 trillion, while around 50% of sports fans are said to attend games wearing counterfeit merchandise.

While smart apparel brings authentication, identification and tracking capabilities, it also opens new and exciting fan engagement and game-day experience possibilities.

George talks about the opportunities, as well as the barriers in the industry, as he looks to take smart apparel to a mainstream audience of sports fans and beyond.
