    134. Tim Brown, Co-Founder of AllBirds

    Tim Brown once had a thriving career as a pro soccer player. But the New Zealand native had a curiosity about merino wool and a passion for design that had him walking away from one career in favor of another, founding Allbirds in 2016 with friend Joey Zwillinger. For episode 134, he gives me the lowdown on how it all happened, creating a smarter sneaker that we know today as the wool runner. He talks to me about the brand's original Kickstarter that caught on fire but resulted in the "worst year of his life," and the big lessons he's learned along the way to growing a thriving company. Fun fact: Today, Allbirds — a once-e-comm only brand — has 20+ stores globally, selling much more than a single sneaker. Just last week, they launched their debut clothing collection including T-shirts, crewnecks, and cardigans.

    133. Gwen Jorgensen, Runner & Olympic Gold Medalist

    When Gwen Jorgensen graduated from the University of Wisconsin, she had every intention of becoming a CPA. Within a year of working, she did her first triathlon, doing well enough to achieve elite status. Before she knew it, she had qualified for the 2012 London Olympics and life was never really the same. In episode 133, Gwen talks to me about the #hurdlemoment of navigating a flat tire in London, causing her to come in 38th place, and inspiring her to work harder than ever to make it back to the olympic stage in 2016. We talk about the big life decisions she had to make to follow that dream, including a move abroad and the relentless support of her partner Patrick, and what it was like to be the first woman to win Olympic gold in triathlon. Of course, we also get into her decision to leave triathlon for running full-time, what life’s like in Portland right now, and how motherhood and injury have both played big roles in her recent training.

    5:56. FIVE FIFTY-SIX! I'm still pinching myself. Last Friday, I ran a mile time trial with a friend with the goal to break 6:00. Well, I did it, and I have the Strava data to prove it. For #HURDLEMOMENT this week, I'm chatting about why the mile distance means so much to me and all the details surrounding the build-up to this particular effort. I offer up my pre-race routine, talk about my strategy going in, share the hardest part of the entire shebang, and how the entire experiment made me feel. (FYI: Super emotional TBH.) A huge, huge thanks to my teammates at Brooklyn Track Club for supporting me on race day, and to the friends, family, and Hurdlers who reached out!
