Ep 42 When it Gets to Do Or Die
This episode features another woman who has created her own business, and in this case her own unique product as well. Like many women her age Suzanne Carroll came from humble beginnings and started out at secretarial school. She completed a business diploma and worked for various corporations, selling advertising for big brands. After many years (she won't say how long exactly) working in the corporate world Suzanne experienced severe bullying which resulted in a breakdown. She took mental health leave and wondered what she was going to do as she knew she couldn't return to such a toxic workplace.
Suzanne was reaching an age where it would not be easy to gain new employment, and found herself unemployed, but too young, with too much to offer to retire. Searching for a business venture she noticed that no one was marketing cooler bags for women. No matter how much she searched. she could not find anything anywhere in the world that she felt was stylish enough to carry her wine in. She decided to create a handbag for her wine, and came up with the idea of Cool Clutch, a handbag with a removable cooler pocket.
When the first Cool Clutch was taken to market Suzanne quickly realised that although her main focus had been wine, women were embracing Cool Clutch for its ability to keep food, makeup and medications cool. Finally there was a stylish cooler bag, and more excitingly it was combined with a fashionable handbag.
With her products patented in Australia, and patent pending in 38 other countries, Suzanne Carroll is determined that Cool Clutch becomes a household name in the new fashion category of the Ladies Cooler Handbag.
Ep 41 Babies and Business
In this episode, Jacqui speaks with a woman who is having a baby and starting a business! Kate Fairley is a general insurance broker based in regional Victoria who recently gave birth to her second child while launching her new business, Macedon Ranges Insurance. Kate has a gift for breaking down complex insurance issues and giving clear and concise answers to help her clients make informed decisions when it comes to purchasing insurance products. She is passionate about supporting small business owners with tailored advice, as well as helping property owners navigate the insurance requirements for lifestyle properties. But no matter what needs to be insured, Kate's aim is to make the process as easy as possible.
Ep 40 Inroads into a Creative Life
In this episode, the discussion turns to creativity and the benefit of using the whole brain. Dr Cathryn Lloyd Founded Maverick Minds after experimenting with the intersection of creative, academic and business principles at one of London’s leading art and design universities. She realised that creativity and art could be used as a central methodology to solve complex business problems and inspire innovation within teams.
She has spent much of the COVID-19 lockdown period engaged in several online business collaborations, preparing to write the second instalment of The Story Cookbook, and embracing her artistic creativity.
She was named as a Finalist in the 2020 Letheridge Small Scale Art Award for her submission “There was a sense of peace”.
Cathryn’s fervent hope is that business does not ‘snap back’ into the previous incarnation of itself, and that collectively we embrace and embed the positive changes in the way we work and live, which have been fostered in response to the global pandemic, to create a better future.
Ep 39 Set up to succeed
