Midday Report – June 06, 2024
On today’s Midday Report with host Terry Haines: One person has died and another is at a local hospital after two boats collided south of Petersburg yesterday. Anchorage police officers have been involved in a spate of shootings. And Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins of Maine were the only Republican senators to vote yesterday to advance a bill that would put the right to contraception into federal law.

On today’s Midday Report with host Terry Haines: Alaska’s Little Norway celebrated Norwegian Constitution Day late last month with a week-long festival. A multi part bill passed by the state legislature last month includes a provision extending Alaska’s Senior Benefits Program. And suspicious illegal aliens on the Yukon.

On today’s Midday Report with host Terry Haines: We have a clearer picture of this year’s races for the Alaska Legislature after Saturday’s filing deadline. Eight young Alaskans are suing the state to block the Alaska natural gas pipeline project. And a last-minute candidate joined the race for the House District 5, which covers Kodiak, Seward and Cordova.

On today’s Midday Report with host Terry Haines: Advocates are accusing the Alaska Department of Corrections of unconstitutionally limiting access to attorneys at the state’s only all-female prison. The Alaska Department of Transportation reports progress in an area where ancestral graves underlie a popular trail. And some Alaska Republicans are decrying Donald Trump's conviction on 34 felony counts.

On today’s Midday Report with host Terry Haines: An organization in Southeast Alaska has won a half-million dollar grant to reduce the cost of trash disposal. Lawyers in Alaska are hoping to become a more diverse profession, and ideally more accessible. And the Alaska Department of Transportation has temporarily closed a trail across a desecrated burial ground.
