    Rachel Simmonds joined Conwy County Borough Council in 2007, following a range of previous roles within community settings. In 2007, Rachel joined Conwy as a Professional Youth Worker and since this time her roles within the organisation has developed continuously, and she is currently Strategic Manager of Conwy Youth Service and Outdoor Education.

    Rachel feels Youth Work is at the heart of the community, providing positive caring and welcoming spaces for young people to connect, share and learn. Rachel has always had a passion and interest in improving Young people’s mental health, including providing outdoor experiences and opportunities to push boundaries, overcome challenges and have fun. Rachel feels the above outlook has supported her within her personal and professional career, never being scared to try something new!

    Outside of work, Rachel is a keen walker and enjoys discovering new places. Rachel is married with two children and enjoys spending time with them exploring, learning and having fun. She is also a governor at a local primary school.

    Ymunodd Rachel Simmonds â Chyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy yn 2007, yn dilyn amrywiaeth o rolau blaenorol mewn lleoliadau cymunedol. Yn 2007, ymunodd Rachel â Chonwy fel Gweithiwr Ieuenctid Proffesiynol ac ers hynny mae ei rolau yn y sefydliad wedi datblygu'n barhaus, ac mae hi bellach yn Rheolwr Strategol Gwasanaeth Ieuenctid ac Addysg Awyr Agored Conwy.

    Mae Rachel yn teimlo bod Gwaith Ieuenctid wrth wraidd y gymuned, gan ddarparu mannau gofalu a chroesawgar cadarnhaol i bobl ifanc gysylltu, rhannu a dysgu. Mae Rachel bob amser wedi bod ag angerdd a diddordeb mewn gwella iechyd meddwl pobl ifanc, gan gynnwys darparu profiadau a chyfleoedd awyr agored i wthio ffiniau, goresgyn heriau a chael hwyl. Mae Rachel yn teimlo bod y rhagolygon uchod wedi ei chefnogi o fewn ei gyrfa bersonol a phroffesiynol, heb fod ofn rhoi cynnig ar rywbeth newydd!

    Y tu allan i'r gwaith, mae Rachel yn gerddwr brwd ac yn mwynhau darganfod llefydd newydd. Mae Rachel yn briod gyda dau o blant ac yn mwynhau treulio amser gyda nhw yn archwilio, dysgu a chael hwyl. Mae hi hefyd yn llywodraethwr mewn ysgol gynradd leol.

    Voices from the Field: Matthew O’Brien

    Matthew O’Brien Headteacher Birchgrove Primary School

    Matthew O’Brien started teaching in 1999 and has gained a thorough knowledge of the Primary Curriculum and has experience teaching across the age ranges from Reception to Year 6 and in a Special Teaching Facility.

    During his career, he progressed from class teacher with curriculum responsibilities to two deputy headships, and in 2008 was seconded by the Local Authority as acting headteacher. In 2009, he was appointed headteacher of a Junior school and soon after successfully amalgamated the Infant and the Junior schools.

    He has been headteacher of Birchgrove Primary School since November 2013; a school that nurtures children’s natural curiosity, and develops happy, confident learners.

    Facilitating the Professional Learning of staff is central to Matthew’s philosophy. All staff at Birchgrove Primary School successfully understand the school’s vision and as a result, they work together as a community. Over time, the school has successfully brought about significant improvements and sustains these in a meaningful way. Much of this has been achieved by supporting the professional learning of the staff and strengthening collaboration with parents and the wider community.

    Pennaeth Ysgol Gynradd Gellifedw

    Dechreuodd Matthew O'Brien ddysgu yn 1999 ac mae wedi cael gwybodaeth drylwyr o'r Cwricwlwm Cynradd ac mae ganddo brofiad o addysgu ar draws yr oedran yn amrywio o'r Dderbynfa i Flwyddyn 6 ac mewn Cyfleuster Addysgu Arbennig.

    Yn ystod ei yrfa, aeth ymlaen o athro dosbarth gyda chyfrifoldebau'r cwricwlwm i ddau ddirprwy brifathrawiaeth, ac yn 2008 cafodd ei secondio gan yr Awdurdod Lleol fel pennaeth dros dro. Yn 2009, fe'i penodwyd yn bennaeth ysgol Iau ac yn fuan llwyddodd i gyfuno'r Babanod a'r ysgolion Iau.

    Mae'n bennaeth Ysgol Gynradd Gellifedw ers Tachwedd 2013; ysgol sy'n meithrin chwilfrydedd naturiol plant, ac yn datblygu dysgwyr hapus, hyderus.

    Mae hwyluso Dysgu Proffesiynol staff yn ganolog i athroniaeth Matthew. Mae holl staff Ysgol Gynradd Gellifedw yn llwyddo i ddeall gweledigaeth yr ysgol ac o ganlyniad, maent yn gweithio gyda'i gilydd fel cymuned. Dros amser, mae'r ysgol wedi llwyddo i sicrhau gwelliannau sylweddol ac yn cynnal y rhain mewn ffordd ystyrlon. Mae llawer o hyn wedi'i gyflawni drwy gefnogi dysgu proffesiynol y staff a chryfhau cydweithio gyda rhieni a'r gymuned ehangach.

    Voices from the Field: Owain Jones

    Owain Jones, Headteacher Aberaeron Comprehensive School

    This presentation is delivered through the medium of Welsh.
    Owain Jones has been the headteacher at Aberaeron Comprehensive School since 2015 and was previously the Deputy Headteacher at the school. Owain started his career at Ysgol Y Strade in Llanelli and was given the opportunity to develop various leadership skills whilst in this post. Owain is currently a mentor to leaders on senior leadership development programmes and the NPQH qualification and is a peer inspector for Estyn.

    Voices from the Field: Jen Davies

    Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Calon Y Cymoedd

    This presentation is delivered through the medium of Welsh.
    Jen Davies is a primary phase teacher and middle leader in the Welsh medium sector of Bridgend. She has worked at her substantive post at Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Calon y Cymoedd since 2008 under three headteachers and has supported the school as part of the senior leadership team since 2015. Following a yearlong secondment teaching at a Primary school in Melbourne, Australia, Jen, has worked as a seconded Deputy Headteacher at Tynyrheol Primary where she earned valuable experience in curriculum design and has developed a passion for learning about and sharing successful pedagogy and an understanding of the science of learning. Her curriculum design work at Tynyrheol has supported other schools in their mission to provide the best opportunities for their learners and support for their practitioners. She has recently been appointed Deputy Headteacher at Llanfair Primary in the Vale of Glamorgan where she looks forward to continuing her work in a permanent senior leader’s role.

    Mae Jen Davies yn athrawes cyfnod cynradd ac yn arweinydd canol yn sector cyfrwng Cymraeg Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr. Mae wedi gweithio yn ei swydd sylweddol yn Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Calon y Cymoedd ers 2008 o dan dri phennaeth ac wedi cefnogi'r ysgol fel rhan o'r tîm arwain hŷn ers 2015. Yn dilyn secondiad blynyddol yn dysgu mewn ysgol gynradd yn Melbourne, Awstralia, mae Jen, wedi gweithio fel Dirprwy Bennaeth ar secondiad yn Ysgol Gynradd Tynyrheol lle enillodd brofiad gwerthfawr wrth ddylunio'r cwricwlwm ac mae wedi datblygu angerdd am ddysgu am addysgeg lwyddiannus a rhannu addysgeg lwyddiannus a dealltwriaeth o'r wyddoniaeth o ddysgu. Mae ei gwaith dylunio cwricwlwm yn Tynyrheol wedi cefnogi ysgolion eraill yn eu cenhadaeth I ddarparu'r cyfleoedd gorau i'w dysgwyr a chefnogaeth i'w hymarferwyr. Yn ddiweddar mae wedi ei phenodi'n Ddirprwy Brifathro Ysgol Gynradd Llanfair ym Mro Morgannwg lle mae'n edrych ymlaen at barhau â'i gwaith mewn rôl uwch arweinydd parhaol.

    Voices from the Field: Bryony Evett Hackfort

    Bryony Evett Hackfort
    Director of Learning, Teaching, Technology and Skills for Coleg Sir Gar and Coleg Ceredigion

    Bryony Evett Hackfort is the Director of Learning, Teaching, Technology and Skills for Coleg Sir Gar and Coleg Ceredigion in South West Wales. Bryony is extremely proud of the Further Education (FE) sector in Wales and feels passionately about the need to amplify its voice. Bryony started her FE journey in 2006 within the Performing Arts department and made the move into the leadership of teaching and learning in 2018. Since that time, Bryony has made the most of every opportunity to learn about the FE community and establish links, networks and projects driven to support the FE sector. Bryony aspires to be a future leader for FE and be part of helping to shape its direction.

    As a leader, Bryony wants to enable and support those around her to recognise their own strength, value, potential and voice within their organisation and externally. Bryony has demonstrated a commitment to this approach through the creation and implementation of the Action Research programme and the development of Coleg Sir Gar and Coleg Ceredigion’s ‘Culture of Curiosity’. Action Research and the wider FE speaks movement, is about showing staff that they are able to shape and influence not only their organisation but the sector as whole in order to give our learners the best possible experience and opportunity to reach their potential. This programme has achieved national recognition through the Princess Royal Training Award 2022 and has already had a significant impact on the confidence and value that many of our academic staff are now starting to place on their own work and capabilities.

    Cyfarwyddwr Dysgu, Addysgu, Technoleg a Sgiliau i Goleg Sir Gâr a Choleg Ceredigion

    Bryony Evett Hackfort yw Cyfarwyddwr Dysgu, Addysgu, Technoleg a Sgiliau Coleg Sir Gâr a Choleg Ceredigion yn Ne-orllewin Cymru. Mae Bryony yn hynod falch o'r sector Addysg Bellach (AB) yng Nghymru ac yn teimlo'n angerddol am yr angen i chwyddo ei lais. Dechreuodd Bryony ei thaith AB yn 2006 o fewn yr adran Celfyddydau Perfformio a gwnaeth y symudiad i arweinyddiaeth addysgu a dysgu yn 2018. Ers hynny, mae Bryony wedi gwneud y gorau o bob cyfle i ddysgu am y gymuned AB a sefydlu cysylltiadau, rhwydweithiau a phrosiectau sy'n cael eu gyrru i gefnogi'r sector AB. Mae Bryony yn dyheu am fod yn arweinydd addysg bellach yn y dyfodol a bod yn rhan o helpu i lywio ei gyfeiriad.

    Fel arweinydd, mae Bryony eisiau galluogi a chefnogi'r rhai o'i chwmpas i gydnabod eu cryfder, eu gwerth, eu potensial a'u llais eu hunain o fewn eu sefydliad ac yn allanol. Mae Bryony wedi dangos ymrwymiad i'r dull hwn drwy greu a gweithredu'r rhaglen Ymchwil Weithredu a datblygu 'Diwylliant Chwilfrydedd' Coleg Sir Gâr a Choleg Ceredigion. Mae Action Research a'r AB ehangach, yn ymwneud â dangos i staff eu bod yn gallu siapio a dylanwadu nid yn unig ar eu sefydliad ond y sector yn ei gyfanrwydd er mwyn rhoi'r profiad a'r cyfle gorau posibl i'n dysgwyr gyrraedd eu potensial. Mae'r rhaglen hon wedi sicrhau cydnabyddiaeth genedlaethol drwy Wobr Hyfforddiant y Dywysoges Frenhinol 2022 ac mae eisoes wedi cael effaith sylweddol ar yr hyder a'r gwerth y mae llawer o'n staff academaidd bellach yn dechrau ei roi ar eu gwaith a'u galluoedd eu hunain.
