Mike’s doctoral research focused on student attendance in Queensland Secondary schools and has been published in a peer reviewed journal. Prior to joining DCSZ Mike led Upper Coomera State College on the Gold Coast. Upper Coomera is a Preparatory Year to Year 12 college of 2100 students. Before this, he was Principal of four diverse schools in Queensland. Mike's professional interests revolve around explicit teaching and learning that facilitates student acquisition of thinking skills, the coherence required to lead schools to excellent performance, and how staff growth and professional development supports student happiness, wellness, and achievement. Mike also gains great satisfaction from supporting the development of aspirant leaders. Mike and his wife Terri love travel and are always planning their next adventure.
