Ep 11: 3X3=9, or 9 Tips for Effective ID-SME Interaction.

Ep 11: 3X3=9, or 9 Tips for Effective ID-SME Interaction.

Among all those who make eLearning Content Development possible, the most mysterious, presumably intractable, and often annoying to the ID, is the SME or the Subject Matter Expert.

The ID-SME relationship is almost always caught in a storm. The SME thinks that the ID is too young, too inexperienced, too theoretical...etc., and the ID finds the SME stubborn and headstrong, unwilling to change, infuriatingly inflexible...and so on.

But there is a method to this madness.

In this episode, listen to 9 tips (3 each for the beginning, middle, and the end of your SME connection,) and remember to use them with your next SME to see your rocky-relationship transform into a synergistic, productive, and efficient teamwork.

Ep 10: How to Storyboard for your 3 Audiences: The Dos and Don’ts

Ep 10: How to Storyboard for your 3 Audiences: The Dos and Don’ts

The perfect storyboard is an illusion.

But you already know this – don't you?

You also know that storyboards are the craziest thing to create.

    They require:

Creativity of all the four kinds (visual, textual, aural, and kinesthetic,) logic, smarts, empathy, passion, patience…and a few more attributes.

In this episode, we discuss the important dos and don’ts of writing good visual descriptions, onscreen texts, and programming notes or interactivity descriptions. So if you are an instructional designer who has storyboarded at least once, then this episode can help you enhance your storyboarding skills.

Warning: If you’ve never storyboarded before – this episode isn’t going to make a lot of sense to you. It assumes that you’ve been into eLearning storyboarding and want to go further.

I’d like to thank Tripti Saun, an instructional designer and curriculum developer from Mumbai, India (https://www.linkedin.com/in/tripti-saun-ba0052112/) for suggesting that I do a podcast on storyboarding.

Ep 9: Are you designing your Courses and Trainings to Fail? (The 3 Biases.)

Ep 9: Are you designing your Courses and Trainings to Fail? (The 3 Biases.)

Episode 9 :: Are your biases preventing your courses and training programs from succeeding?

Does your content suffer from any of the following mismatches?

    Content-audience mismatch
    Presentation-audience mismatch
    Theme-audience mismatch

And these mismatches almost always happen because one of your biases acted up.

In this episode, we will talk about audience or the reason why we engage in content-creation. We will discuss the three biases that we the content professionals may have and how these three biases could destroy a perfectly great course or training program.

Ep 8: The Gestalt Principles & Instructional Design

Ep 8: The Gestalt Principles & Instructional Design

    Episode 8 ::

This episode discusses the psychology behind the Gestalt Laws/Principles and extends them to instructional design.

Why you don’t remember the face of everyone who dances behind Hrithik Roshan or Katrina Kaif?
Why don’t you remember the details of every object on your desk, but despite the clutter you remember the exact spot where you would find your favorite pen?
Why the man and the woman who were sitting on that bench silently, appear to be a couple?
Why you enjoy seeing videos of performances that appear perfect?
Why can’t you sleep when you are trying to find out why something happened or why do you keep seeing a triangle when three sticks are set up so that their ends touch?

And…what does it all have to do with design, and more specifically with instructional design?

In this episode the following five Gestalt Principles are covered in depth.

The Law of Figure and Ground
    The Law of Pragnanz
    The Law of Proximity
    The Law of Good Continuation
    The Law of Closure

Ep 7: Ravi's Story (Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs)

Ep 7: Ravi's Story (Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs)

Episode 7 :: This episode tells the story of Ravi.

In this episode, let us accompany Ravi on his journey from Kanpur in India where he was born, to Los Angeles in the United States, and watch him transform from a poor but carefree child into an unhappy millionaire.

Ravi’s story is about love and life, about hope and desire, about guilt and regret, and it is about Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a theory of human motivation given by Dr. Abraham Maslow, and I am of the opinion that the roots of learner motivation are deeply embedded in the psychology of human motivation.

I recommend keeping your notebook and a pen handy.

Ep 6: The AFR Learner Types (Learning in a Changing Evolving World)

Ep 6: The AFR Learner Types (Learning in a Changing Evolving World)

Episode 6 :: As new technologies spawn new jobs, and new jobs demand new competencies…will you thrive, survive, or strive?

In this episode, I talk about the AFR Learner Types and how self-identifying as one of the types and changing ourselves in the right direction could help us stay employable in the coming two decades.

You can download the text of this episode as the pdf of the article, “The AFR Learner Types – Learning in this Changing Evolving World.”

In the last one year, this has been the most downloaded PDF on our site, and I believe that the reason behind it is that the pandemic has hastened the pace of the change that was anyway coming. Now, it’s so close that we can feel it, hear it, smell it!

And this is also why we now feel a greater need to be prepared.

In the episode I also refer to the article “Jobs in this Changing Evolving World” that preceded the above AFR article. It will help you contextualize the AFR learners better.

Please visit the Resources page at the Creative Agni Website at: http://creativeagni.com/downloads-pdfs-whitepapers-articles/free-resources-docs.htm.

If you have thoughts to share or questions to ask, please email me. You are also welcome to leave a voice comment at http://anchor.fm/learninglights

Thank you and have a great week ahead!
