the one about body trust ft. Aaron Flores

In this week’s episode Hannah and Ali talk all things body trust. They are joined by Health at Every Size Registered Dietitian and Certified Body Trust ® Provider Aaron Flores to tackle your questions about how to make peace with and trust your body. Hannah and Ali have been following Aaron’s message on Instagram (@aaronfloresrdn) for years and have always admired the effortless balance of wisdom and empathy he brings to his followers so they were THRILLED when he agreed to share his message with the Let Us Eat Cake community. The questions you pitched his way were not easy but there is no surprise Aaron hit them out of the park. How can I trust my body if I gain weight when I eat whatever I want? Why do we need to trust hunger and not fullness cues in eating disorder recovery? How do you trust your body is at an ideal or natural weight? Is there a way you can eat and make food choices to feel more confident in your body, but also not subscribe to diet culture? With summer approaching and lockdown (hopefully) ending soon, do you have any tips to increase comfort seeing friends in person in a body that has changed? The idea of body trust can feel so daunting that it’s hard to know where to even begin. In this week’s episode Hannah, Ali and Aaron give tangible tips and steps to get started repairing your relationship with your body today. This episode is an absolute home run!!
Make sure to head over to the @eatcakepod Instagram account Monday-Friday at 3pm PST for a live support "Snack Time & Chill"- a chance for a supported snack at a physical distance, to ask your nutrition questions and have some laughs along the way.

the one about processed foods ft. Brenna O'Malley

the one about processed foods ft. Brenna O'Malley

In this week’s episode Hannah and Ali talk all things processed foods. They are joined by the delightful Registered Dietitian and founder of The Wellful, Brenna O’Malley. Brenna specializes in helping people find freedom from diet culture, food guilt and being tied to the scale so that they can do the things in life they really love. Together we dig into your questions about processed foods, health and intuitive eating. Do food companies process foods to make them addictive? How can we say “all foods fit” when clearly there are differences between processed and whole foods? Should you avoid foods where you can’t pronounce items on the ingredient list? Do you need to be worried about protein powders with artificial ingredients and additives? Are the calories in processed foods different than those in natural foods? Do processed foods have more health risks associated with them than whole ingredients? We know diet culture loves to reduce our relationship with food down to morality: is the choice good or bad, right or wrong, healthy or unhealthy… but as Brenna likes to say “guilt is NOT an ingredient” and there is so much more to our relationship with food than this narrow black or white view. In fact, in this episode Hannah, Ali and Brenna will show that health is about so much more than eating for nutrient value alone. Don’t worry, as always they provide the science and evidence to help you feel free to eat the rainbow! (Skittles pun intended ;))

the one about mindful eating ft. Vincci Tsui

the one about mindful eating ft. Vincci Tsui

In this week’s episode Hannah and Ali talk all things mindful eating. They are joined by the wonderful and insightful Registered Dietitian and certified intuitive eating counselor Vincci Tsui. Vincci is a former bariatric surgery dietitian turned body liberation advocate and author of The Mindful Eating Workbook: Simple Practices for Nurturing a Positive Relationship with Food. Vincci’s unique experience practicing in a weight loss clinic before finding her place as an expert in coaching clients with intuitive eating, mindfulness and rejecting diet culture makes her the perfect person to answer all your questions about mindful eating. What exactly IS mindful eating? What do we use it for? How much time should you allow yourself to eat so that you can eat mindfully? What kind of strategies should you practice to make meals more satisfying? Is it bad to have distractions like TV or your phone while you’re eating? How do you tell the difference between emotional hunger and physical hunger? Diet culture has tried to corrupt mindful eating as a diet trick to limit our intake and add more rules. In this week’s episode, Hannah, Ali and Vincci call diet culture’s bluff, and help you do the opposite! This episode gives you the skills so that you can be present in the moment, remove judgement and connect with curiosity so that you can truly enjoy and be satisfied with food.

the one about fat positivity ft. Tash Ngindi

the one about fat positivity ft. Tash Ngindi

In this week’s episode Hannah and Ali talk all things fat positivity. Understanding how important it is to listen and learn from those in the fat positive community, Hannah and Ali asked the fabulous Tash Nigindi from @thethicknutritionist to join this episode. Tash is a non-diet nutritionist, body supportive Zumba instructor and a former crash dieter who uses her story with recovering from diet culture and embracing her body to answer all your questions on social media, race and reclaiming the word fat. Do social media filters perpetuate unrealistic beauty standards? Is calling someone fat an insult? Are the BMI cutoffs rooted in racism? Can you be healthy if your body is outside the normal BMI range? There was no better collab than bringing on the sassy, hilarious fellow Canadian Tash Nigindi to tackle this topic. There were lightbulb moments and of course a ton of laughs as Tash takes a one, two punch to diet culture and dances with self-acceptance all over this episode.

the one about ob*sity ft. Dr. Natasha Larmie

the one about ob*sity ft. Dr. Natasha Larmie

In this week’s episode Hannah and Ali talk all things ob*sity. They have the honor of having Dr. Nathasha Larmie from @fatdoctorUK join them for this dynamic episode to answer all your questions about ob*sity and chronic disease. Dr. Larmie uses her personal story to illustrate the impact of weight cycling and the pressures health care providers and patients feel when they are told their weight or health condition is a personal problem to fix. As a Health At Every Size aligned and weight-inclusive GP with over 20 years of medical experience, there was no better guest to help Hannah and Ali cut through the B.S. regarding ob*sity, weight stigma, anti-fat bias and chronic disease. Isn’t ob*sity a significant risk for several common and serious conditions like heart disease, diabetes and osteoarthritis? Why do you censor the word ob*sity? Doesn’t classifying ob*sity as a disease enable more people to get help, resources and support so they can be healthier? Does weight-inclusive care protect people’s emotional health, but worsen their physical health? What is “disease of adipose tissue dysfunction” and does body fat cause disease? This episode had Hannah and Ali fist pumping and doing a little dance as Dr. Larmie challenges weight-focused care and drops truth bomb after truth bomb. Trust us, this is an episode you must listen to - it’s the doctor’s order!
