    Episode 8: The Police Review

    Amid mounting public pressure following the quashing of Graham Stafford's murder conviction and a decision not retry him, Queensland police launched a review in the Leanne Holland case. Was Leanne's murderer arrested, convicted and sentenced, or is a child killer still at large? The re-investigation would be fully transparent and the findings made public. After 2 years the review was completed in 2012. But, for reasons unknown, the findings were never made public. Until now....

Great content

Really good substance and content but the music and background noises are terrible! Very very distracting and almost inappropriate at some points. Especially toward the end of the season, the music becomes jazzy and even gimmicky in all the wrong places.

Started well but...

Soon deteriorated into unnecessary sensationalism and bias. The presenters seemed unable to deliver information with professional detachment, persisted in asking ridiculous and leading questions and overall demonstrated the standard of journalism that we have come to expect from the 7 network. Such a shame - it is an interesting case and one deserving of further investigation and elucidation. Leanne Holland certainly deserves better.

Sensationalist & too dramatised

Covers a very interesting case which initially is covered well (although with waaaay too much unnecessary drama)...
however they dropped any journalistic integrity they might have been building, by trying to capture a sensationalist TV “got-ya” moment!

Completely failed to challenge any of the final Case Review Report Findings or point out
• areas overlooked (such as, a teenage girl doesn’t have to be at home to bleach her hair - cld have been at someone else’s house);
• biased/emotional language (such as, ...”process of bleaching her hair was ‘inexplicably’ cut short” - maybe she was just inexperienced and didn’t do a good job of it... or maybe she was aiming for highlights...etc).
• possible assumptions/weaknesses (such as, only 1 out of 60 blood spots on shower curtain was actually DNA tested, however the exec. summary stated that “the curtain blood splatters were found to belong to the girl and so “proved” she was killed while in process of bleaching her hair””.... 1of60 makes this an assumption & was NOT scientifically proven & therefore holds no weight to the case).

Instead ‘reporters’ focussed on trying to railroad the subject into taking an ill-timed lie detector test and to turn his supporters against him - lucky he had enough sense to realise he had been cornered and postponed it to a more suitable time and that his supporters mainly saw through these emotionally manipulative tactics.

I gave this podcast a chance, but when compared to other podcasts that actually demonstrate incredible investigative reporting, this podcast is only worth one star... I won’t be wasting my time on another sensationalistic Ch7 podcast again.
